Fitting a JS1000 neck to a JS100 body?

I have a JS1000 neck from an Ibanez hybrid guitar I bought a while ago.

My friend is selling a JS100 that he has fitted an Edge trem and Dimarzio pickups to.

I'm just wondering, can I just bolt my JS1000 neck onto his JS100 if I buy it? As then I would pretty much have a JS100 wouldn't I?

I've looked around the forum to see if anyone else has put up a thread about this, I apologise if this has been brought up before, but I can't find it anywhere.

Any information would be greatly received.

Many thanks

it should fit. i don't know what the dimension of the js100 neck pocket are in comparison to the js1000, but i think they are pretty much the same. both necks are 22 fret, so it should be swappable. you will probably need a luthier put it on to make sure it fits nice and snug (may need a shim).

hi there

thanks for the reply. I don't mind using a shim as that can help with the action on the guitar as well can't it?

I just think that if my friend sells me his JS100 cheap enough, then I'd be crazy not to put the JS1000 neck on the JS100 body.

Especially since the JS100 already has a Edge trem and Dimarzio's, then adding the neck would basically make it a JS1000.

Is the JS100 in Transparent Red?? If so, then adding the JS1000 neck would give you one of the baddest looking guitars. In my opinion, that's what makes the JS100 worth the purchase and then adding the upgrades. For the longest time you couldn't get a JS1000 in the TR color. And in my opinion, it's one of the best colors for the JS.

well its a bit of a dilema, because he has one in white and one in TR... both have exactly the same mods. He is selling both as he is emigrating... Like you say though you can't get a JS1000 in TR colour... so that might swing it for me, but in saying that its pretty rare to see a JS1000 in white these days too...

I may just choose whichever one he is selling cheapest.

Would you go for the TR one then I guess?

I've always loved the TR's, just bought another one off ebay and have already swapped in a Edge trem into it(I just got the guitar today and already had to mod it HAHA). I owned a 97 JS100 in TR also but sold it years back. Now I've got another TR and my JS20S(which I love).

That's being said, White JS's are freaking badass looking guitars. I've always loved the White JS1000's, which always bummed me out because the JS100's always came in Black or Translucent Red. I know they made the JS100 in white but they aren't very common.

So your choice is White or TR, both of which are great colors and a very hard choice. Now if the choice was Trans Red or Black, the TR would win hands down. But a White JS100 would be very tempting.

Whichever one you get, it will rock with the JS1000 neck on it.

Depending on the years they may not be compatible. I don't know what the Korean and Indo 100's did in heel width but 05-09 the 1000 will have 58mm heel.

Aren't 100's all Korean?? I didn't know they made Indo-versions. The '95 I just got says Korean and my JS20S is Korean and if I remember correctly my '97 was Korean made.

Went to Indo either this year [or last year]. There is no Korea anymore. It slid into the sea.

Re: Fitting a JS1000 neck to a JS100 body?

Thanks guys for the info. My JS1000 neck is a 1999... does it have a 58mm heel? Sorry for all these questions. I guess I should just measure the heel of my neck and ask him to measure the neck pocket of his JS100's.

I bought a TR JS100 brand new back in 2001 but sold it after a few years and lost a fair bit of money on it. Got so frustrated by the LoTrs trem and came on to see about puting an Edge trem on it and new pickups etc, but then someone made a very valid point of just selling it and buying a second hand JS1000... So I ended up selling it and buying a second hand JS1200... One of the nicest guitars I've ever owned. I ended up selling it though to pay off some debt... big regret. So once I've sorted out this JS100, I fully intend on getting another JS1200...

So Swirled777, did you install the edge very easily using the same posts and anchors from the TRS? Wish I had done that all those years ago, but hey, you live and learn.

Hey Rich, I hope its not against any forum rules here that I'm posting this in the wrong section, but could I PM you regarding some parts? I tried to email you on your site, but it loaded up Outlook Express and I'm not exactly computer savvy. Could we deal through PM on this? Again, I apologise if this is the wrong place to post this message, but I don't want to just PM you out of the blue without asking first.

Cheers

The neck pocket will need routing down 2mm in depth to make it correct, And get rid of the JS100 POS neck plate and get a chrome cast one...

Re: Fitting a JS1000 neck to a JS100 body?

Hi SP.

Thanks very much for the info. How will I know when the neck is sitting at the right height and if I have routed down the neck pocket enough? Is there like a level that the neck should sit at?

Do you have any tips as to where I can get a cast neck plate? I've been looking on a certain auction site... but had no luck.

PS Great work on your white JS project by the way... amazing stuff. I may need your advice on how to put in a high pass filter into these JS100's as my mate isn't sure if he has put one in.

Those neck plates do pop up on that certain auction site from time to time. I bought 1 from Rich (IbanezRules) a long time ago - not sure if he's got them in stock now though.

I contacted Rich earlier on today and unfortunately he doesn't have any, so I'll just have to keep on looking on auction sites etc.

cheers
