Flamed UV777GR fretboard surprise

As a longtime lurker, occasional contributor, I've been following these forums.

A recent purchase has prompted me to post a msg. here.

While bored at lunch one day, I decided to read the internet newsgroups. * ALT.GUITAR was one I subscribed to and donwloaded 1000s of msgs from. * Near the top, I see a subject of "3 guitars for sale". *I read it and this guy is selling a UV777GR. *He has a link for pix and says "make offer. *these are going to ebay next week". *The guitar itself has a 1 headstock chip, 1 back-of-the-horn chip and a missing pressure pad.

So I like the pics, exchange a couple of emails, and I offer him something in mid $600 range for the guitar. *He accepts right off! *Cool! *He ships the guitar, I open up the case and I am extremely surprised to see a very shiny, highly flamed, maple board!! *

Everything works on the guitar but the fretboard is amazing! *

Has anyone else here seen/heard of a flamed-maple UV777GR? *

In a previous life, I owned a UV777GR but had to sell it......regretted it ever since. *Now I'm re-united with one and I think I'll hang onto this one for a while. *I think it's kinda special.

You never know when G.A.S. will strike, override your best reasoning skills and force your hand into the cookie jar of guitars!

Will post some pics this weekend. *Once I figure read the FAQ and figure out where to put them.

Gotta find time to play the darned thing also!

Guy

congrats on a great deal

you will see some flame and nice birds'eye in the necks/fretboard of JEM/UVs... i had a VDY with a heavy flame on the neck (not fretboard obviously!). It mostly depends on the cut of the wood. The larger mass of the UV neck opens the wood up visually also... glen

Kenny: *The other 2 guitars are as follows....

A bluish PRS CE-24 bolt-on made in 1993
a Kramer Baretta american(mid-80's) with a custom paint job

Here's the pics of the guitars....
Pics here!

The fifth picture of the UV pyramid shows a little flame, but it's mostly washed out by flash. *I never noticed the flame in this pic before I made an offer.

I'll hopefully get some better pics taken this weekend.

It's funny though....my fretboard is similar to the BFP's back of the neck...the flame-spread look.....
the back of my UV neck is similar to the BFP's fretboard....the spine-of-flame!

over and out.
