Flo's Inline - straight tuners

I'm not sure if anyone has asked this...

Who makes the tuners Steve has on Flo?

They are big chunky black things that seem to tune from the rear of the head.

You can see them on the Live @ the Astoria DVD or here

http://www.vai.com/SightsSounds/nov17-00reh/05.html

They don't stick above the head, just straight thru from the back, like banjo tuners.

i think they are Steinberger Gearless Tuners. you used to be able to get them from MusicYo , for like $99.00 but they dont list them anymore.

I haven't seen any Flo pics for awhile, but I'm pretty sure he had the LSR gearless tuners installed. They're the same tuners that Mike Keneally has on his green Clapton Strat. You can order them direct here:

he doesn't have them on FLO any more. I don't think he liked them too much.

Here's an up-close of FLO's headstock taken by me a couple of months ago..

vaijem:

keneally's strat just has one on the high E string .. never understood why he had just the one, but it'd be a worthy question to ask.

It may just have one on the high E now, but 3 years ago it had a full set.

I was lucky enough to catch him and BFD at the Dean Markely booth at the NAMM show. When he broke a string, I was the lucky guy directly in front of him who got to put a new one on for him.

Hey, that's cool! Mike's a nice guy, I interviewed him pretty early on in my journalistic career and he kindly overlooked my nervousness and fawning fanboyism. I haven't caught Vai with MacAlpine yet but I'm a bit sad knowing Mike will probably never tour Oz solo so those two Vai gigs were my only chance to see him perform.

ITs really sad because here is a player who is every bit as technically gifted as vai, yet he has no audience. I really think its sad. He will find his niche one day I hope.

Yeah. But his music is certainly not as accessible as Vai's, which isn't very commercial to begin with. I'm sure Keneally would have been a superstar in the 70s but there isn't much space in the current mass market for a slightly tubby 40-something dude who sings about throwing coasters at ceiling fans and can't decide if he's Frank Zappa or Steely Dan.
