Found: Vintage GEM guitar

Hello friends. I just joined Jemsite because I bought a GEM (not JEM) guitar at a thrift store. The guitar is clearly old. I was wondering if anyone knew about this brand. The only thing I found about GEM is from a forum, and a person said that GEM was bought in 1987 by Ibanez, and then the company renamed the guitar JEM by Steve Vai.

The serial number on the guitar is W0. 21278, or possibly an O instead of a 0

Does anyone know about this guitar? How much is it worth? What year is it from? I'm very stuck.

Thank you very much.

Nothing about the JEM was ever "GEM". Whatever you have looks to have been made at the World factory in Korea, or whichever Chinese factory is using the W designation.

Good Luck... I think I have been trying to figure out information on this guitar for a few days and this thread and one other guy have ever heard of a GEM... My father has asked a few people if they know anything about it and they stare at him and ask... "what the hell is a GEM?"

Hello

In reply to the above posts re: GEM guitar, I too am having difficulty tracing the company. The Gem logo is in black scroll writing under the keys. I cannot find a serial number on mine, any ideas where it would be located.

The guitar is at least 55 years old, I was given it as a child for guitar lessons. I remember my guitar teacher was familiar with the make and he made an offer to buy it at the time.

If anyone has any info on GEM it would be a great help. It is small in size and does not appear to be expensive looking. It is 6 string with possible ivory keys.

Any i

hi since my post of yesterday, i now think it is possible that the GEM guitar could have been manufactured by an company called general music started in Italy. Today the company are based in America and produce keyboards, amps etc.

Any info on this thread?
