FP JEM Value help

First I'd like to thank veryone that replyed to my question about removing the tarnish from backplates. The Brasso worked perfectly!

I've been wanting a swirl for a while now and I haven't been able to bring myself to fork over the cash that the DNA or GMC are bringing. So I had a thought. I have three FP's, two are perfect, not even the tiniest ding or scratch, but the third an 88 model is scratched beyond any hope of repair. I have had this one since 88 and it has always been a faithfull guitar thru hundreds of gigs. I'd like to know what your opinions are on striping it down and sending it out for a swirl. I guess the resale value could only go up since it's beat now. Also I tried to get the parts to build a new JEM but the vendors are either unreliable or not accepting new orders.

So what do you think? Should I be cained for even thinking this thought?LOL

Re: FP JEM Value help

Mate right now if it came out a killer swirl then it might go up in value.... but if one day FPs became Mega collectable then in general you are better to have a beat up original finish as opposed to a new re-finish.... but I think there are plenty FP's out there... and you have two... so why not go for it... or trade teh otehr two for a DNA and just play your player

Re: FP JEM Value help

I doubt the FP 's will ever be worth more than 2k just because there are zillions of them out there. I mean theres probably more of them than there are White JEMS!

And yes I would trade 3 FPs for a DNA!LOL

Re: FP JEM Value help

The FP's aren't good candidates for swirls being front routed IMHO. I've seen front routed swirls around here before but swirling a pickguard just doesn't do it for me

Do you have pics of your "loved" '88 FP? I'd like to see how reliced it is.

Mint FP's could bring a nice price (possibly $2k or more each) and in fact if you sold them both you might have a "close" proximation of the price of a DNA (IF you can find one for sale).

My morning coffee obviously hasn't kicked in!! D'oh. Excuse my blasphemy

You are correct. I usually think of the FP as the same guitar as a VBK (which is rear routed).

Then I guess you would just need to decide what colors would work with the green vine (GMC maybe?).
