FP JEM Value help

First I'd like to thank veryone that replyed to my question about removing the tarnish from backplates. The Brasso worked perfectly!

I've been wanting a swirl for a while now and I haven't been able to bring myself to fork over the cash that the DNA or GMC are bringing. So I had a thought. I have three FP's, two are perfect, not even the tiniest ding or scratch, but the third an 88 model is scratched beyond any hope of repair. I have had this one since 88 and it has always been a faithfull guitar thru hundreds of gigs. I'd like to know what your opinions are on striping it down and sending it out for a swirl. I guess the resale value could only go up since it's beat now. Also I tried to get the parts to build a new JEM but the vendors are either unreliable or not accepting new orders. I think I could live with it since I am a little sentimental about it.

So what do you think? Should I be cained for even thinking this thought?LOL

I wouldnt count on the resale value going up, I'd bet on it going down, but if you arent going to sell it then do whatever you want with it.

Well, by up I mean it would bring more than it would right now in it's present condition. I probably couldn't get 900 for it right now, it's pretty beat.

Similar to old furniture on that Antiques Roadshow program, I'd think that a played out reliable guitar with good tone always has more value with the original finish & parts than with any major alteration which a new finish is.

My 2cents...FWIW.
