Frankenjem

The first neck that i've made from scratch. It would be nice to have a real jem neck to measure from haha. Any suggestions feel free to post them.

Re: Frankenjem

Is that real copper wire on the board? How do you play it once you put frets on?
Also, unless you use copper frets (???) you may have a dissimilar metals issue if they make contact.

Re: Frankenjem

i just kind of went at it and didn't think to much lol but i inlayed the copper so the fretboard is completely flat. Idk about the different metals but i don't see it being to big of an issue considering i made the neck out of stuff just laying around (including the truss rod). It is maple though with an oak fretboard.

Re: Frankenjem

This is BEYOND cool!!!

Accept i would have done just plain, black leather and stamped your logo in there. This is SERIOUSLY awesome!

Re: Frankenjem

The leather doesn't take good pictures the flash makes it look reallly silver but it's actually a mottled green and I did have black in the same style...it was a tough call lol

Re: Frankenjem

Well whatever you did was the right choice because that looks KILLER!

I might have to try that on this guitar that I'm refinishing for my friend.

Re: Frankenjem

It's a real pain to do the stitching and drilling lol and once you decide to go for it you can't turn back....my problem was is that i messed the back of the neck up and gave it a mottled look on accident so i decided to make it a franken-type guitar but after i did all the franken-crap to it i re shaved the back fixing it so now I have to mess the back up again haha

Re: Frankenjem

Well, whatever mistakes you made were the right ones because it's come out great!

I love this messed up look on guitars. I think its awesome. Probably because I'm a 17 year old metalhead though

Re: Frankenjem

I'm not to sure what ima do for the body. I had a thought on multiple pieces held together somehow or maybe some crazy carving. What do you guys think?

Re: Frankenjem

Very cool idea, but I agree with the different materials (copper touching frets) to probably create rust problems by contact corrosion real quickly.

Anyhow, I can't wait to see it finished!

Re: Frankenjem

I think I'm going to coat the copper ends in clear epoxy then leave a small gap as well. that should help.
