Getting a JS10TH - Please help

I've always wanted a Chromeboy. After months of looking for one, I finally found a JS10TH locally. Hey, this could be my 3rd Ibanez!

Basically I'm going to meet up with the currently owner tomorrow and have a look. He's already told me it's #309 in its original case and that there's only slight wear on the chrome finish. BUT, no certificate.

I need some advice now! Basically what should I be checking? About the missing cert, what's on there? Joe's signature? I understand resale would be affected without one. However, I don't think I'd ever consider selling it. How hard is it to live with the chrome body?

10ths never got a cert, just the #'rd control cover. The cleaner they are, the cleaner the chrome is, scratch free, no missing chrome, no hairs, bad pits, etc. the more it's 'value', and value can range from $1500 to $3000 which is a pretty broad range. Just make sure the asking price matches the condition.

There's another thread here about using a chromeboy as a player that could give you more information.

Well, I didn't get it.

That JS10TH I was looking at was in worse shape than I'd expected (e.g. a bit of the chrome had peeled off. Some bubbling on the trem.) Turns out that I couldn't bear this sort of so-called imperfections! I figure now if I must have a Chromeboy, I'd only consider one in absolutely untouched condition no matter the cost!

The seller was kind enough to let me take the JS10TH home for trying out overnight. *It was a shame because I happened to have to stay back at work that night, and not having a chance to play it through my home gear. But heck, it was such a beautiful guitar!!! I was definitely having a full hard on looking at it. The shape of the JS body (which I always like), the reflections, the chrome body and headstock...

It was such a big disappointment for me. I still haven't gotten over it.

BTW, the JS10TH was going for about US$1,000. It's #309 in played condition. If anyone's interested, post here. Seller is in Melbourne, Australia.

It's actually the one on ebay.com.au - do a search for 'js' and you'll find it.

The guy's got 2 Chromeboys, #309 and #22 (the latter not for sale). #22 was the first one that came through to Oz and #309 second.

Rich, do you know anything about replacement bodies for the JS10TH? Are those ever available? The guy says it might be possible for JS10TH owners to order (e.g. through Australis) brand new replacement bodies. ???

Good work, don't settle, take your time and find one that is in the condition that you want it in. Good luck

You definately can't order a replacement body. I'm pretty sure that's the same guy though, he had 2 (and considering how few there are in Oz!). Was he wearing a golf cap?

Wow, if you could order a replacement body, then I would have ordered a couple for some other guitars already... And it seems like some of us would have gone through how many of them, due to the quality issues...

OK... I'd asked the guy exactly the same question when I first talked to him. But no, they're not the same guy! There're a total of 11 JS10THs locally delivered in OZ, AFAIK.

I should've thought about that, too, about replacement bodies!

Hey, are there any ways of touching up those, er, 'imperfections'?

I think that model paint would be ideal for touch-ups, I'd check out a hobby shop.

Model paint just doesn't cut it. I had the bright idea of doing a palladium leaf touch up on the one I just shipped with a piece of chrome gone, but I sold it before I could get to it. The leaf will be about as reflective/shinny as chrome, but probably no exact match. They also make alluminum and silver leaf, I couldn't find a place that had all 3 to compare to the chrome.

To close a coincidence, sure it wasn't #209? Is this it?
