Gonna have Steve sign a guitar...advice needed! :-)
Hi there -
Not sure if this is the correct forum but hope you don't mind. ;-)
I'm looking for an an original ('87) Jem LNG or DY (see my new classified/"WANTED" ad) to have signed by Steve Vai and I would appreciate your guidance on the best way to proceed.
Would a Sharpie or similar "permanent" marker be best - OR - would some type of "paint pen" or other type ink be best in order to keep the signature as permanent as possible?
Would you then suggest covering/sealing the signature with a clear coat, lacquer, or other method (other than plastic/tape)?
I understand some of the early LNGs where signed withOUT permanent marker then a rattle-can clear coat was applied which made the signatures fade/run, etc...and I'd like to avoid this with my new signature/artwork.
Really appreciate advice -- especially any proven/successful methods you may have used -- with details on what type of pen/ink and possible clear coats. Since I have the opportunity to use whatever pen/ink for the signature vs. trying to preserve an existing Sharpie/etc...type signature, I'm hoping to do the best I can to preserve the signature (and still play the guitar) for many years to come! :-)
