Has anyone ever seen a new UV777BK in a brick and mortar store?

Has anyone ever seen a new (not used) UV777BK in an actual retail store and not just online? I live in the DFW area where there's almost nothing but GC's (which really sucks) and none of them ever have this particular guitar, although occasionally I'll see one on the used rack in less than desirable condition. Just curious if other areas have better selections of Ibanez guitars...

No but why pay new? They go extremely cheaply due to lower demand.
Why even buy a new guitar? Be a womble and keep the world tidy

I'd have to concur with that. I just picked up a 1999 Universe today for $1500, it's in great shape for being 11 years old. Tried to talk the guy down a bit but he was pretty solid on the price. Which I happily paid because I've been wanting a Universe and figured $1500 for a guitar that I didn't have to buy through a website or auction site and actually got to mess with before I bought it was very nice.

I've seen a few on-line going for less than a grand but they are usually beat down. Anything going over $1700 is usually in pristine condition and at that price, just pay a little extra and go new. Seems like between $1100 and $1700 are where most of the good and buyable examples are at.

Some guys don't mind sloppy seconds [and thirds], and some actually prefer virgins

I saw one in a music store in Canberra, Aus in about 1999.

I don't have any problems with buying a nice used guitar, but the used UV777BKs that I've seen in stores are always in pretty bad shape and way overpriced (for used). I just wanted to see what a pristine, new UV looks like, and if I was going to buy new I'd go through Rich again anyway. I've been keeping an eye on the e_bay auctions, but I'm hesitant to buy something so expensive that way.

p.s: Just curious, why is e_bay marked out with asterisks on this board?

You know you can use Musician's Friend as well for a Universe purchase. They offer a return policy if you're not satisfied as well, so pretty much zero risk and of course they are reputable. Also last I checked, the regular Universe(not the Reissue) is going to be priced at $1999 on Musician's Friend. Not a bad deal and I think the Reissue has something to do with that.

I had considered going with MF but ended up finding a nice used one here locally. Plus I didn't have to wait, and according to Musician's Friend website the new Universe's won't be in until 4/16/2010.

It's to stop folks joining up for the sole reason of spamming the site with links to e_bay with "buy my guitar - here's a link" threads.

I have never seen a UV of any type in any brick & mortar store, online only.

Re: Has anyone ever seen a new UV777BK in a brick and mortar store?

I only buy used anymore...not just because I'm cheap, but I think that older, used instruments have more "soul" for some reason. And I don't freak out the first time I bump it into something and nick it.

I'm glad I joined up here; when I go to buy my first Jem or UV I'd rather buy it from the classifieds here than fight over it on that auction site with folks I don't know from Adam.
