Help! JS Special

I've got a chance to get hold of a JS Special and I'm damned if I know what to do.

I've done some research on the aforementioned guitar and it does seem there were 100 'Specials' made for Satch to use during guitar clinics on his Asian tour in '03/04.

The guitar in question looks pristine - I don't think it's ever been played - and looks very similar to a JS1000WH but has chrome hardware as opposed to the cosmos of the JS1000's. There's no push/pull on either the tone or volume but it does have an Edge trem rather than the lo-pro. The fingerboard is a very dark premium grade rosewood and the neck is apparently grade A maple.

It's signed by Satriani on the back cover and is also numbered.

I'm pretty sure it's kosher but does anyone own one of these and can confirm any or some of the above?

Re: Help! JS Special

Sounds like you're on the right track, but I couldn't hand on heart say that all that was correct. But there'll be plenty of info here if you do a search.
How much is it going for out of interest?

Re: Help! JS Special

Trust me, I'm searched out and still I have some doubts.

It's going for quite a lot of money but you'll have to excuse me if I'm a bit paranoid about revealing exactly how much.

I'd post a few pics but as a newbie I don't know how to

Re: Help! JS Special

Personally speaking, I wouldn't pay over the odds for a JS Special. I'd doubt you'd get your money back.
You need to register and then download your pics to a site such as www.photobucket.com Btw, it's free to use. Once you've done that, you copy the IMG code for the pic and past it into your message. It's pretty easy once you know how

Re: Help! JS Special

What would you call over the odds?

It's supposedly one of only a 100, all signed and numbered so I'd have thought that made it something of a rarity.

I'm not after it for its value or otherwise but it just looks bloody fantastic.

Re: Help! JS Special

Considering I could probably pick up a descent JS1000 for around £600-£700 in the UK, I'd be reluctant to pay too much over that. I'm not sure that the specials are worth more than that, but of course I could be wrong! Maybe someone else here could chip in, hey Rich

Re: Help! JS Special

I hear what you're saying and yep,I could and have picked up a decent JS1000 recently for a fair price but this is something of an unusual opportunity, assuming it's genuine.

There are just some niggling doubts in my mind....

Re: Help! JS Special

So what is special about it? It sounds like a standard JS 1000 with different hardware and is signed. I don't see how it would be any sort of collectors item worth any more money.

Re: Help! JS Special

Essientially that is what it is! A JS1000WH with chrome hardware. Sure, I prefer the chrome hardware, but I wouldn't pay more than a normal JS1000 for one.

Re: Help! JS Special

I've got one of my own!

Some people consider this as an collector item while some people don't (like Rich). It depends if you really want it or not but it's truly a nice JS.

Re: Help! JS Special

OK YJM, I need to know where to get one like that. A white JS Special would compliment my JS stable quite well.

Re: Help! JS Special

Swee Lee [or Tommy Lee, I never can remember which] ordered them to have Joe sign when he was in Asia doing a series of clinics. That would be the correct story, they were not made for him to use. They are not an "official" release from Ibanez, if they were it might be a little different [like a JEM15th where the signed plate actually means something]. If you want the signature bad enough to pay that much for it is up to you, IIRC they were $1100ish when they were new, which was [I think] 2000. But it's still a JS900 if it doesn't have the push pulls.

Re: Help! JS Special

I'd love to get my hands on one of those white ones though. I could care less about Joe's signature on it, I already have a couple of guitars signed by him. The white JS is just an attractive axe IMO.
