HELP NEEDED - Jem experts please!

I need some help with a Jem 7vwh I'm looking at. Is it possible that this Jem 7vwh is fake?

The neck feels much thicker than my RG550, I was just wondering if you guys knew anything about this particular year specs etc...

any help would be greatly appreciated! Take a look at the pics and see if you see anything out of place.

The trem system says Ibanez on it. The machine heads have Gotoh G stamped on them.

The pickups have DiMarzio impressed on the plastic.

The SERIAL NUMBER IS: F0509338

thanks again guys!

Re: HELP NEEDED - Jem experts please!

If I'm not mistaken an 05 would come with an Edge Pro, which that certainly is not.

The neck does look a little wide, and doesn't seem to thin out at the nut, which a real JEM neck would. Also, the routing for the bridge cavity looks off. The truss rod cover is also wrong, as are the tuners. The Team J Craft stamp looks awkward as well.

Can you post a good pic of the inlays so I can see what material they're made of? Looks like the large leafs are the wrong material, but the pictures are bad.

I'm relatively new to JEM's, but I've obsessed over fakes quite a bit.

... and the headstock logo is also way off.

Check against this image, you'll see all the inconsistencies.

Re: HELP NEEDED - Jem experts please!

Unfortunately, that serial number does appear to be one of the ones that's used on some fakes.

The Lo-Pro's shape is pretty close, but I don't believe real ones ever said "Ibanez" on them, but rather had the "Licensed under Floyd Rose Patent" or whatever the exact wording is. Plus I believe the string lock nuts should be gold and the arm holder is wrong, though some people have retrofitted the Floyd-style arm holder to Edges. Of course, beyond all that, that serial number belongs to an '05 model which would have the Edge Pro anyway.

Next, I see that the nut is of the type where the locking screws go through the neck which is also incorrect for this model year. When they went to the 5 piece neck with the large volute, they also switched to a top-mounted locking nut. Also, the tuners most definitely do not look right.

All in all, this looks like one of those copies that were circulating for a while that looked more legit at first glance. Under closer scrutiny, however, the truth comes out.

EDIT: And, of course, I was beaten to the punch several times while typing this

Did you purchase this thing? Who is selling it? A heads up might go a long way to prevent someone else from making an expensive mistake.

You ask for experts, it only took one glance at the trem to confirm it's a counterfeit.

Re: HELP NEEDED - Jem experts please!

private seller, got it for next to nothing. will make a beautiful wall ornament at the worst case scenario. i brought it into an Ibanez dealer to get her checked out when i bought it today, and told me its actually real, which was a shock.

it does play great for something that could be a fake!

Re: HELP NEEDED - Jem experts please!

It's definitely fake, I'm just curious about the quality of the inlays and what material they're made of.
