Help price a 88 Jem neck plate

I have a 1988 Jem neck plate and I'm curious what something like this is worth. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Help price a 88 Jem neck plate

Well that's pretty unique. I mean it's THE way to date a Jem of that era. But let's say for whatever reason someone bought a Jem that came with some original papers, like a receipt that listed the same serial but for whatever reason the neck plate was removed from the guitar then I reckon that's got to be worth $100-$150 USD to the owner. Maybe a bit more if said guitar was in great condition. However, if someone bought a Jem without an original neck plate and they just want to make it as near as authentic as possible then they might want to pay up to $100 USD max I reckon. The likelyhood is that a damaged Jem was parted out I suspect. Unless you know where it came from? How did you come to have that particular spare?

Re: Help price a 88 Jem neck plate

I stand corrected! Were they certain years Rich or early years in general? There's one from 1989 that went for $240 USD recently on the 'bay and it wasn't in as good a condition as tzoranski's. I was waaay off.

When somebody needs a neck plate, they need a neck plate, and one thing very difficult to get, it a neck plate. Especially if it's a year that fits the model. The devaluation of a guitar with missing plate is right about $500 anyway.

Re: Help price a 88 Jem neck plate

Thanks for the info. The plate comes from a Jem 777SK that I bought in 1989. The neck was damaged in a accident and the guitar was unplayable so it sat in the case for years. I did however remove the pink paint on the body thinking someday I would get it painted black. In 2008 I found this site and decided to buy a replacement neck and get the body painted. There was a forum member who painted some guitars for people on here. People seemed to be happy with the work so I reached out to them. There were some issues with painting the body and eventually they stopped responding to my e-mails. So long story short is I'm now starting to sell whats left of the guitar. I just wasn't sure how to price the neck plate.

Re: Help price a 88 Jem neck plate

I guess I left this out but I never got my money or the body back from the person. So with without the original neck or body I just gave up. Sad demise of a great guitar.

No, I have heard horror stories about Sims tho. Their forum name was courtney2018. Not even sure she is still on here.

Re: Help price a 88 Jem neck plate

This was back in 2008. There are some threads showing her work. I reached out to some forum members who used her and they seemed happy. I just assumed I could trust her. Never thought I was going to loose the body and my money. I didn't even really care about the money, just wanted the body back. I guess I learned a big lesson.

That is extremely bad luck man, really rough. Apologies for my first post - I'm glad Rich chimed in to remedy the numbers. I hope you get top dollar for the plate and that the funds can go towards a great guitar for you enjoy. Maybe if you mention in the sale that it came from an SK you'll benefit even more. I hope so. Best of luck mate.

Re: Help price a 88 Jem neck plate

I will definitely list the info. Your right, that could help in the sale. I'm definitely wanting a new guitar, thats why I'm starting to sell what is left. Looking forward to putting this behind me and focusing on a new guitar that I can enjoy. I have my eye on a few guitars, now I just need to save some money!

😳 that's a lot of dough for a neck plate. Maybe I should have parted out my Jem when I sold it

Re: Help price a 88 Jem neck plate

Mine is in excellent condition. The pictures really don't do it justice. Didn't get much use considering the guitar wasn't used for that long. I hope I can get that much if I decide to sell it. I have my eye on some guitars that are rather expensive for me.
