Exclamation Help tuning my ibanez jem please

I made the mistake of tuning my Jem to Drop D for a song and now i want it back to standard as it's too much of a pain to keep changing it. Everytime i tune one string it sends the others out, how can i prevent this from happening so i can tune it? I saw some people talking about blocking the tremolo with something? any help is appreiciated thanks

Re: Help tuning my ibanez jem please

Cool Article. I ran into a situation last night where everyone was down a Half Step and I was standard and it took forever to get it straight. I belive I may Need to release the tension on My springs some to level the bridge back out? Or move to a Heavier gauge. I use 9s -42 on My Jem. Since it is my primary gigging guitar and will be with the new group I just joined I am Just trying to consider the best option to take with this.

Re: Help tuning my ibanez jem please

Just need 2 more guitars. One for each tuning. Keep the Jem at standard and get a couple of RG 5xx or 7xx for the other 2 tunings. Problem solved.

Re: Help tuning my ibanez jem please

Metalhead is right, you should never try and change the tuning on your Jem while your gigging, it's practically impossible to do it fast.
Your gunna need a couple more axes, that's honestly the only solution.
As for changing the string/tuning etc, you need patience, and you need to learn to do it properly.

Re: Help tuning my ibanez jem please

Yeah...I have four back ups to my Jem, But seeing how that is my Main gigging guitar I set it up with tens. The problem was real showing up to rehearse with these new guys and them forgetting to mention that they played everything a half down. So it took a good 45 minutes, as most of you with Floaters know, To get it set. Now that I moved to 10s and reset everything how I like it, It's all good. I was mainly exploring options before switching Gauge on it.

Re: Help tuning my ibanez jem please

My jem just suddenly dropped its tuning in a big way the other night. It was apparently set up by a proffesional luthier, can it be he didint tighten up the locking nuts enough?

Freaked me out, how do you know if the trem has moved somehow? is it only by eye?

I unlocked everything and spent some time and we are now back to tune and locked down tightly.

Re: Help tuning my ibanez jem please

I do the EVH thing of blocking all of my trems from pulling up. I just use a wood shim and some glue, and keep shaving the wood shim until it is just right. I can still use the bar for all of the dives and such, just no pull up. And best of all, I can alter tunings or whatever I want, even have a string break, and the other strings will stay in tune. In never like a completely floating bridge anyway, this is so much more stable and I still use the bar for everything I ever wanted to do with it.
