How do you guys care for your Jem ?

I'm just curious in what products you guys use to clean and care for the different parts of your guitar. I read a Thread that lem oil is bad for the necks. What does everyone thing ??

Re: How do you guys care for your Jem ?

Everytime I change strings I just use a clean rag with neutral soap in all parts.
I take off metal parts and wash them with a neutral detergent to clean up grease.
Lem oil on fretboard and car's polish wax for its body and headstock.
I really don't waste my money with expensive guitar products cause at the end guitars are just pieces of painted wood, nothing more.
It doesn't need special products.
I have guitars which I've been playing for more than 10 years and they're almost brand new.
So my way of cleaning works.

Keep it clean with a velvet rag after playing.

Use Fretdoctor all 3 months.

Retune your setup every month.

For the rest just look at ibanezrules.com for how to keep your setup in shape.

I had to resharp the knive edges on my oldest Ibanez guitar once until now.

Not much other than a wipe down and Fretdoctor during string changes.

I'd agree, very little, clean with lint free cloth after use. Tried using lemon oil/fastfret but don't like it (or seem to need it) on an ebony board.

I would only oil a fretboard when it is visibly dry.

Re: How do you guys care for your Jem ?

I always use lem oil on the fretboard after a string change and works fine for me. I also use a dedicated but inexpensive guitar polish for the back of the neck on my 91 floral as the original finish has quite a bit of play wear over time.....

I use a brush attachment on the vacuum cleaner every couple of weeks to keep dust from building up on fiddly bits like bridges.

Clean fretboards every few months or years depending on buildup using some Keyser string cleaner and sometimes a simple fret polish with some metal polish and a rag. Damp rag on the body if it needs it.

Re: How do you guys care for your Jem ?

errrr I don't really.

My guitar tech gives it a good sorting out at every string change and set up though.

Re: How do you guys care for your Jem ?

I clean the strings before and after I play.
I usually put fast fret or other similar (now I put one of Dunlop).
The refretting in my two Jem was done for the best, Jim Donahue.
Two 777 jems as the first day.

I clean the fingerboard when I change the strings. I do it when the strings starting to be not in tune well. Perhaps 3-4 weeks.
If I play in live, each two shows.

I watch the frets. When they are a bit plain, or fret wear, I level them and I crown them. Sorry for my english (leveling and crowning).
This could be one time in 18 months.
