How should I refinish this?

Hi all,
I've been away for a while, so it's good to be back ('bought a Roland TD12 and have not been able to put the sticks down:-) .

I picked up an '89 777VBK last night, that's in need of some help.
It's actually not bad, except some clown has stripped most of the black down to the wood and then has clear coated it. The neck's been left alone.
The original pickguard has gone and has 2 black Evo's installed.
Spares that came with, are one of the original green Dimarzios H/Bs, original but very tired trem' and the 2 green knobs.
So, I was maybe thinking a GMC lookalike, or something completely different.
Any ideas?

The VBK is front routed and the GMC is rear routed.

I'd consider a solid color and cool pickguard to go with the green vined neck and call it a day

Pics? i always kinda liked that prototype that Mike Keneally used to play on tour with steve (forget the name but was finished wood tone with black pickguard and white pickups).....

LNG is always an awesome choice!

Re: How should I refinish this?

OK, I haven't started pulling it apart yet, so thanks for the heads up on the front route. I was thinking maybe a solid green as close to the vine as possible, but was also considering a green/ black/purple based swirl as a first home attempt.
Is there any threads that has a "how to swirl" guide? ;-)

I remember MK's guitar, this looks similar, untill you get up close.
As for pics, I'll be taking some before I start dismantling.

Try a search here and at projectguitar.com for tips on swirls.

The first thing I did was "search" here, but all I got was great pic's but no instructions as such. I'll try project guitar, thanks for the help:-)
