I will be a JEM owner soon...

Hey guys, after 5 years at Jemsite I think you all have finally gotten to me. Through Rich, I've ordered a JEM7DBK! I've been playing RG-5**'s for a while now but it's time to move up a bit.

I'm really stoked, I still can't believe I'm finally going to actually own a JEM.

Woohoo grats! I finally picked up my first Jem, an 89 FP, and I know how you feel. I cant believe I actually own one after all these years of looking at them. I was a confirmed Strat/LP guy till I started reading this site. Enjoy your new Jem!

Congrats... Welcome to a new world of sounds ...
You're lucky to wait for a Jem : It's like being 5 minutes before a "rendez-vous" with a new girlfriend... Nice!

Cool! I love the look of those puppies! If I ever get one, I'm calling it "Darth Axe" and getting LGM to put in some chrome vines or pearloid pyramids or something else REALLY cool like that.

I just got my 7VWH yesterday for the price of $1400. Pretty good price, but it was a 98 model with a small chip on the back that was patched up a bit (hack job of it though.) Well, I just had a couple questions about it.

On the scalloped frets, the abalone is pretty dull...is this just a result of the scallops or is it dirty? It doesn't really appear to be dirty.

How would I replace a string on this thing? I get the part about unlocking the nut, and the string saddles, but how will I know how far to cut the ball end off? Or will it really matter?

First of all, congrats on your new guitar. However, do you think my thread was the best place for your tech question?

This may be helpful if you don't have the locking trem manual that originally came with the guitar... sorry I don't have a scanner, so I had to take pics of the pages. Page 1 adresses your ball-cutting issue

Check them out:

Well the funny thing is...I didn't get ANYTHING with my guitar. They just got it from their other store in another town, and they must have just sent the guitar. So the guitar only came with the case, the bar, and spare washers for it. No toolkit, books, or anything. So I'm going to go down there tomorrow to get adjusted a bit more and ask them about it. And sorry about the tech questions in this thread.

I'm new to the forum and also going to buy 7DBK.
What about pick-ups? I heard DiMarzio are the best, any opinions?

Skald,
the DBK comes with DiMarzio breeds. They are supposed to be very smooth and warm sounding and that's what I like. Maybe some DBK owners who've had real experience with the breeds could help you. Mine's not here yet.

thanks Jeff, by the way, when are you getting yours?

A question to dbk owners: are those breeds really good?
