Ibanez - not copied????

Since I've become addicted to Ibanez guitars.....these necks just make it hard to play other guitars.....I've been wondering why it seems no other guitar maker really ever tried to compete directly with the thin, awesome necks. I mean,,,,Jackson USA, Fender, Gibson,,,,,pure beefy necks. Sure, Hamer came kinda, sorta close--I used to own an old Centaura that was pretty thin. But not like an Ibanez. Even my ESP M-ii is pretty thick. You'd think some of these other companies would try and go for the Ibanez market....at least with some models.......but I've tried/owned a lot of guitars by many companies, and it seems no one has ever really tried to step much on Ibanez's toes. I wonder why. I know for the big USA companies,,,they've stuck to the same formula for years due to pride, etc. Even my Jackson soloist- a so-called shred guitar- has quite a log of a neck. For me, with smaller hands,,,I can't imagine better necks than my Ibanez guitars.

Actually, of all of the guitars I used to own,,,I guess the Kramer nightswan was pretty thin like an Ibanez. I owned one for six years until selling it off to fund my second Jem!

Re: Ibanez - not copied????

My old ESP Mirage Deluxe had a thin neck--almost as thin as a Wizard.

Yeah, I've played an ESP with a pretty thin neck, not Wizard thin, but pretty thin.

Yeah I have become so used to my Ibanez guitars, that playing other brands becomes a mission...

Re: Ibanez - not copied????

I like Ibanez necks but I'm glad I have other guitars too. Ibanez necks are great for metal, shred and fusion but sometimes it's nice to have a neck you can really grab hold of, and a guitar that fights you back instead of gets out of your way.

I think it's important to play other gear regularly if you have access to it. I found very early on that there's nothing more humiliating for a guitarist than being thrown into a jam situation on stage on an unfamiliar instrument and feeling lost. 'Oh I'm totally awesome and I can shred like Steve Vai... as long as the guitar is a pre-1993 Ibanez RG, the action is within .0001mm of what I'm used to, the strings are 9-42s, the pick is a Jazz III and the strap is exactly 3' long. Oh and 320ms delay. Three repeats. 41/59 echo to dry ratio.'

Omg you know my rig and you haven't even interviewed me yet!!!! The only issues, I hope you mean analog delay, and its a little long, I prefer about 300ms. And the NGD is due in about 4 weeks, cheers!!

Re: Ibanez - not copied????

I'd say the necks on my ESPs are more closer to the Viper necks on my JPMs.

I've had a EBMM JP6 and an Axis are hes right those necks are VERY tiny as well as thin. They play great though, don't get me wrong.

Re: Ibanez - not copied????

Ibanez necks have a special truss rods becasue they are so thin so most companies probably don't want to deal with that.

Re: Ibanez - not copied????

My Mirage was one of the 48th st. Custom shop versions, so mine could have been out of the normal--the two ESP M-IIs I used to have had slightly thicker necks than the Mirage.

Re: Ibanez - not copied????

I've got a Japanese Charvel fusion custom from the late 80's and the neck is pretty close to an original Wizard in thickness, but its a bit narrower and has a completely different feel.

Rock on!
