Identify this Jem

I been dreading doing this, but here goes. I bought this guitar from a member on this site about 4 years ago. I am now convinced that it is a fake. I am posting pics so you guys can confirm this for me. I do believe it is a real jem that someone converted to 77BFP.

Re: Identify this Jem

It may be "enhanced", it may have been toyed with, but it is and always was a BFP not matter what was done to it.

Re: Identify this Jem

It's missing the burst around the edges. That's the only thing I can see that's different from any other BFP.

What convinced you it is a fake?

Re: Identify this Jem

Could that burst be on clear and was simply removed? Looks that way... everything else is intact and looks legit.

p.s. looks great by the way.

Re: Identify this Jem

it does look legit. I was afraid of opening the pics, to be honest, but was wondering more and more what was wrong with it.

Re: Identify this Jem

The missing burst is the only thing off about that guitar. Everything else seems really legit. Even the serial number and especially the neck. Perhaps it was refinished and they didn't do the burst? Perhaps a factory second?

Who originally designed the Jem for Ibanez back 1987?

Re: Identify this Jem

Yup, compared it with mine and aside from yours being in better condition, the burst is the only unusual thing. I'd like to know the story behind that,

Re: Identify this Jem

It just looks like a refin hence the glossed maple on the neck and no burst. That lo-pro's definitely legit, the pickup's look to be dimarzios (brass baseplates with triangular arms and the holes between pole pieces) and match the period too.

The controls are in the right place and the knobs (solid blue, not white based, rounded grips) are perfect and suit the time period too. I'd say it's original except the finish.

It's exactly the same as my (late) '91 FP except a B that's been re-glossed.

Nice guitar dude!

Re: Identify this Jem

Wow, im relieved. I thought because it was missing the burst, as well as the headstock is missing "jem". Heres some pics of the neck.

Re: Identify this Jem

Closeup of the head and back of the neck/head would be more useful, in those pics all I can see is the fingerboard.
