Inlay Material Question

What material is used for the Jem 777 guitars for the pyramids? Also, does anyone know where I could purchase some of the material, Any help is appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Re: Inlay Material Question

Don't know about the originals, but on project guitar they suggest vinyl decal material

Re: Inlay Material Question

The original 777 guitars' inlays are colored paper under plastic. The plastic was ground down to be flush with the fretboard.

Yeah, I remember Las Vegas Ed ranting about that.

Las Vegas Ed? Is he a member here? I tried to search for those rants, but nothing turned up.

I understand the idea of putting them under plastic - when you see them up-close, you appreciate how the colors are just as wild as the rest of the guitar, and you want to preserve that. I wonder what made them use paper instead of something like delrin plastic.

Re: Inlay Material Question

I've looked over that project guitar link. Hard to tell from the picture, just like its hard to tell from a picture of the real thing, but the paper used on an actual Jem isn't just a flat color. It has sort of a slight metallic sheen to it. Maybe try metallic cardstock?
