JS 20th a flop?

I was beginning to wonder if, judging by the numbers unsold, if the JS 20th is a flop from a sales point of view, maybe its due to the cheaper 20th s that has detracted from its exclusivity, or then again that its a JS1200 in disguise! Any thoughts?

I think we need about half a dozen members with the power to suspend someone for 12 hours. Then when a moderator signs in they can take the appropriate action. The above BS shouldn't be allowed to happen more than once per troll. I'd like do see this kind of thing dealt with and deleted within minuites of posting.

I liked the JS20th better than the JSBD. Whilte it was pretty expensive all things considered I thought it was WAY COOL.

There was a post, which has now been removed from the thread, which contained about thirty lines of spam/advertising/links and crap. They've been popping up quite a bit recently. Luckily, somebody's on top of it and gets rid of it.

The numbers of unsold Js20th i speak about are on the bay and also quite a few Ibanez dealers around the world. Check them out, they are in abundance it seems.

Re: JS 20th a flop?

Simple really, they released basically 2 special JS guitars the black and the 20th very close together, and in my opinion not everyone has a spare $8k to 10K to spend on them... Most other countries other then USA are selling them close to 10K.. How many of Joes fan base has that sort of money.... 10K on a guitar is not really feasable by young fans, cause they are all struggling musicians....

Re: JS 20th a flop?

The recession's affecting collectors as much as it is anyone else. Both this guitar and the Black Dog were only ever going to be collectors' instruments, not players instruments. And however rare they are, they're just too much money to be players instruments anyway, considering what you can get for $3-4k from the high end custom builders like Suhr, Tyler etc that will blow any Ibanez out of the water.

Re: JS 20th a flop?

Can you honestly call any limited edition, super expensive guitar is a "flop"? I'm not so sure they were intended to sell like hotcakes in the first place. How many $8000 guitars does it take to break even that are functionally no different than the stock production models. Even cosmetically, its not like they're diamond studded or made of gold...

Re: JS 20th a flop?

I'm sure Marvel took a nice chunk for each 20th.

But I can say both the Black Dawg and the 20th weren't very interesting to me, maybe not even at half their list prices.

Especially the Black Dawg. I can make a version of that myself in an hour or so and it would be as "artistic".

Re: JS 20th a flop?

I don't know. If I had a spare $10k and had to choose between a 20th SWTA JS or a Black Dog clone....
I think I'd pick a Black Dog.

Re: JS 20th a flop?

I agree all the late Ibanez limited runs are to high priced.

Of course as Rich always says: For the limited number and collector value, as well as artistic quality the price tag is Ok (even more if you compare to rediculously priced Fenders or Gibson limited editions).

However we are Ibanez fans. We are in love with those guitars and at least I would want to play them. But an 8k guitar is simply a collectors item to me and I am no collector but a player.
So would I want a Silver Surfer?
Sure as hell, if it was a 3-4k guitar I would have been tempted.

Why 3-4k? Well this is the reasonable price to simply buy a JS1200 and have it repainted by a professional. (You can prolly get it for less if you know an artist that can do it). A pal of mine had a donnie replica made out of a JS1000 for 800 bucks (paint job alone) and it looks spot on.
