Jem #1???

I was given a guitar by Steve Vai many years ago at Joe Despagnis house(Jem Guitars). The guitar is a one of a kind and I have been offered alot of money for it in the past. Steve said to me that it was a Kramer pacer body with a Jem Neck(disappearing pyramids), and they both said it's the real prototype to the Green Ibanez version. It has a real Floyd Rose routed, a double and 2 single coils. The neck is stamped in 2 different places "Jem Guitars #1". It is also autographed on the neck and the body.
I was wondering if you guys can place a value on it for me.
I know for a fact that Steve played it for over a year as one of his main recording guitars. I am not looking to sell it, but I would like to have an idea of what it is worth to a collector if I was to sell it.

If you guys can tell me how to post pics here. I will post a few of the guitar.
Thanks

if that's the real thing, i have a feeling it's gonna be worth a lot of money to Jem collectors. it's kinda a piece of history, isn't it?

I fail to make the connection. How can a Kramer body mated to an Ibanez neck be a prototype for a *Ibanez Jem*? Obviously *a* Jem already existed for this to have a Ibanez Jem neck on it.

The headstock is painted exactly the same as the body. I can only post the back at the moment. I'm at my studio and don't have the guitar or the camera. I'll take one tonight and post it.
I do have one of the back
Hey Kenny, where on LI are you. I'll be happy to show it to you in person.
I'm in Seaford Harbor.

It's only worth what someone will pay for it.
If that dont work then it's worth what you can get for it on ebay =)

LOL, if you know Joe, he threw anything together to make a guitar...LOL
Many of Steves guitars were thrown together from many guitars.

Yeah, saw that to. What kind of prototype was this for? A Krabanez?

Nope, that I know, he also used plenty of Ibanez necks in his own creations, but, that's an Ibanez Jem neck, so obviouly the Ibanez Jem already existed, or the neck wouldn't

Look at the picture of the Jem taken from the back, and then at the neck joint. There is an enormous gap between the fretboard overlay (22-24th frets) and the body.

Maybe it doesn't fit because it's not the "right" body for the neck, therefore a test axe ?

Also perhaps the inlays were one of the first ?

Oh well, lot's of "If" "Buts", and "Maybes" here !

Wow that's ugly. It has a Jem neck and a history with Steve, and that's cool, but I can't imagine a lot of people here wanting to buy it. I have been wrong before though, so good luck.

I'm thinking that the BODY may be a proto, but not the entire guitar. Obviously, the JEM already existed in order to have a JEM neck (as per Rich).

Tony
Ibanez neck, Kramer body, I need no further clues as to why it doesn't mate right

Seaford Harbor!?!? I wouldn't set foot in that crack-infested hell-hole!

Just kidding. Do you live near Liberty DeVitto?
I live in Hicksville and I too have had my guitars worked on by Joe the Mangler.

I also play in Farmingdale every Thursday night. Are you old enough to drink? Send me an e-mail or AIM me at KennyInvisible, we'll continue the conversation
