Re: Jem 20th Success or Failure

How is everybodies "real" investments doing right now?!

20's sound as good as any other JEM, so if you haven't actually played one it would be misguided to say anything about their tone

It's too early yet. Dna's did the same thing in 2001, dropping below new pricing. Wonder how they're doing now?

Yes I have played one and have owned 3 Jems (still own 2 of them). Sounded like a toy to me.

Just my opinion but that's what I thought this thread was for.

Your opinion is as vaklued as any others. I don't think you'll find many people that have actually played them share the same opinion about their tone though.

Thats fair enough. I don't mean to be a party pooper!

Like any guitarist I can give a better opinion on things I have actually owned rather than tried for 15 minutes with a strange amp.

One of my favourite guitars (not an Ibanez) is one I was initially quite disappointed with.

I should point out that I became quite specific about what I looked for in a Jem after I played EVO (unplugged) and at that point decided an Alder body and Rosewood fingerboard was what I wanted. When I bought a current Jem 7VWH it performed just as I expected and I now play the hell out of it!

Re: Jem 20th Success or Failure

Most were predetermined to not like them, even more were pissed at the price point, so it had a lot to overcome so it got a lot of unwarranted negative press. But their acrylics sound very good, both the JS and the JEM.

Re: Jem 20th Success or Failure

I just want to echo what Rich said, in that I think the plastic guitars, to my ears sound amazing. I think the JS10 sounds absolutely astounding too and doesn't look plastic at all

Still, I think the 20th leaves a lot to be desired in the looks department but I can't fault the sounds I got out of it (in a store with a familiar amp).

Haha - vive la difference

I actually love the look of it. I would also guess the bodies cost a lot (whatever that means) to make so at least you can be pretty sure there will never be a cheap regular issue.

It will be interesting to see what comes up in the future. I would at least bet on more swirls but other than that who knows....

Re: Jem 20th Success or Failure

Love it! A great machine! The dealer I went to see one at would not let me plug it in, or even play a note on it, yet at least got to see it in person and feel the vibe holding it for 10sec...
