Jem 505

Hey all,

I am usually pretty up on values, but don't have experience with this model. Doesn't seem to be any recent ebay sales to use. Anyone familiar have an idea of value? I know they should sit somewhere between the lower end 555 and a full on Jem. Obviously I know it depends on condition so just assume lightly played but not beat up.

Every used one I've seen has gone between $950 and $1k in good condition w/case.

There's one I've been watching, but the dude won't drop his price.....It's been almost a year........

Re: Jem 505

I'd say better than the 555, buy it if you have to have a jem style guitar otherwise I'd buy a similarly priced Ibanez, you'll get a lot more guitar for your money.

Re: Jem 505

I did in fact snag it. I have just been super busy the last few days. I am working on cleaning it up tonite, so maybe some pics tomorrow. Speaking of cleaning it up, anyone have suggestions to get dust off the pickup tape wrap?

Re: Jem 505

That's beautiful. ^^^

I knew stuff like 555 and 505 were scaled back versions of the 777 but I didn't know the 505 was made in Japan. For the $1000 or so it goes for, it sounds like a great deal in the world of MIJ Jems.

I don't care about scalloped frets or fancy fretwork and I am sure there are plenty of people who would love this guitar for exactly what it is. It sounds like a great catch.

Very nice dude!! Congrats.......she looks great and that board looks nice and clean!!!

A tooth brush with a little soapy water will clean the pup tape up.

Re: Jem 505

Thanks guys!
Ryc, I was concerned about putting water near the pickup windings. I managed to get alot off with just a dry toothbrush, but it could use some more.

the windings are encased in wax.... you won't hurt them. Just don't soak it.....damp is good enough.

Are you going to keep the V's in it?

Re: Jem 505

If I keep the guitar, no, I will swap them out. But honestly I think it is gonna go, too much incentive to make a little cash with it.

Re: Jem 505

Great guitar!

I do recommend the v7 v8 magnet swap for a "free" upgrade. The bridge with the ceramic in it really comes to life

Re: Jem 505

They're a great guitar, congratulations. I second Tommy's suggestion on the magnet swap or Lone Phantom's magnet switch. It really throws extra life into those pickups. Speaking of mods there is a guy making these in Germany, his shop seems to have disappeared, but I've been thinking this would make a great addition to a 505 either black or white.
