Dude, an all too common question. Get a pre-2003 RG550. It'll put a smile on your face. Guaranteed You'll thank me on this one.

The 555 is inferior to an rg570 with or 550 with an edge trem.
Step away from the 555 its not a real jem

Yeah I agree with the others. I had an RG for years - fantastic guitars! Will provide you with all the functionality that you need! And it is what it is - not something trying be something else! Plus, some RGs have crazy finishes!

RG 550 all the way.

What does it tell you that you'll pick a 550 up for 200-250 whereas you've found a 555 for 400 and everyone here would go for the former, irrelevant of cost.

A proper JEM model is anything but the 555.

I've seen 550's go on evil bay for about 180 up to 320 ish, its just a case of keeping an eye out.

Incidentally I was in Manchester today and one of the "BIG" guitar stores had a Jem555 in ....... 949
The FR Bridges on some of there other guitars were rusty n'all!!

the 555 is indeed an inferior guitar, but if your in the UK 400 is a good price and if you haggle a bit you could maybe get i down more
most people dismiss the 555 but the one i had used to play and sound beautifuly (although i did change the trem to a lo-pro :P )
220 for a 550 WOULD be great value, but realistically the cheapest I've really seen them go for is between 250-300 (i'm not saying that you cant get one for 200 but they aint that common ).
at the end of the day i think it's down to taste, you may prefer the look of the 555 (ok the half vine does suck) but the 550s trem beats the 555 hands down.
It's up to you mate but i wouldnt dismiss the 555 straight away
