Please let me know if this is a fake or a genuine jem555 ?

So far this is what i know about this guitar:
-It is a made in korea
-serial number "C 50544730" (arcording to jem serial numbers "50" = made in 1950) ???? im confussed
-has tree of life from 3rd to 12th fret
-"STEVE VAI" block letters on 24th fret
-gold "dimarzio" writing engraved on all pick ups
-also "Ibanez Lo trs trem II" engraved on the left of the tremolo and "licenced by floyd rose" on the bottom
-knobs have gold writing
-the back plate looks suspicious???
- so far it plays great, sounds ok, neck straight, good intonation

Any advice on this guitar would be much appreciated.

It's real... but if you gonna buy a 555, you should search one with the Edge Pro II tremolo.

Stay as far away from that guitars tremolo system as possible. If you can get it for around 200 bucks buy it and part it out :P.

BTW could anybody tell me what year model my jem is made?? i'm confused, i've tried to look up for the serial numbers but couldn't find the info i need.

What I don't get is the "Jem Jr." on the headstock but on the back it says Jem 555. I thought(and I know I could be wrong) that the Jem Jr.'s were only 333's and sold overseas mainly(like Asia and what not). Also didn't know the Jem Jr.'s had Dimarzio's. Could be wrong, not sure.

from what i've researched korean jem 555 has the evo pick ups and the indoisian jem 333 has ibanez pick ups also called the jem JR. but why does my head stock say jem jr? i'm comfussed aswell!!!

The jem jr. was discontinued in the u.s. for a period of time. This particular one is pre edge pro and has the lo-trs 2 tremolo on it. Very poor quality tremolo, but the guitar does have dimarzio evolutions in it. Shame about it being of poor build quality all around.

i agree, it's very poor quality build compared with and jap or usa guitar.
but it does the job, plays well, looks good and sounds ok.
so which year was it when they made it with the lo-trs? i'm still trying to search for it's year model. thanks

This jem 555 i from 1995

+1! JEM555 with TRS Lo is a hit or miss investment unless you WANT to buy an upgrade and rout for a new trem. I snagged a black 555 w/ a TRS and routed it for an Edge Pro. Cost me 180 for the new Edge Pro and 20 bucks for the rout. Will post pics as soon as she's put together.

allow me to modify that- you'd have to rout if you wanted to put in anything beyond an Edge or OFR... then you get into issues of trem preferences and that can be VERY subjective- best left to another thread-LOL!!!

Regarding the tremolo upgrade, as i don't use it and i'm very beginner with it, do i still need to upgrade the trem? i mean if i dont use it and it stays in tune then the lo trs 2 is fine for me.
And where can i buy a edge pro cheap? i found some on e-bay but very expensive.
btw whats the definition for "rout"? sorry for being a nob!!
