Re: JEM 777 DY Serial

Well, I would normal think since DY production went from 87-96, you'd se 87xxxx - 96xxxx, but it seems there was a change in 93.

This quote from Rich's ibanez site about JEM serial numbers says: "Where things go astray is when the Jem line went to AANJ in 93'. This is where you start seeing consecutive numbered plates on the remaining regular joint models that no longer indicate year. 160225 was a very odd plate number I came across on a Jem. Most that I'm aware of are what I call 250k plates [25****] and current 2003' FP15th's have 260K plates [26****] meaning there have been over 10,000 Jem's made since they deviated from the serial plate numbering."

But, I read that as 260K plate, and a 2003 model? So that would be strange.

Re: JEM 777 DY Serial

I wrote that long ago assuming they were consecutive, in reality they could have used 1000 250k plates and went right to 260k plates, there just isn't enough plate data to know. Neck pocket marking will prove what it is or isn't.

Re: JEM 777 DY Serial

My 1999 FP has a serial number of 261235.

Rich, is there such a thing as a 92XXXX plate? I feel like all the GMC, PMC and BFP guitars I see have 91XXXX plates on them. I have to assume they made a bunch of guitars in 1991 and didn't expect the bottom to completely drop out of the market.

Re: JEM 777 DY Serial

I browsed through the pics in Rich's old classifieds and while I understand that's a small sample, I couldn't find any. Square heel Jems available after 1991 were:

FP - '99 (US), '04 (ROW)
DY - '96
BFP - '94 (US), '96 (ROW)
VBK - '93
GMC - '93
PMC - '92

As stated above, I believe all PMC's and GMC's have 91XXXX serial numbers. Looking through Rich's classifieds archive among the others, I found 91XXXX serials and then a jump to 16XXXX.

Re: JEM 777 DY Serial

Cool

I got a gmc '91 plate in combination with '92 manuals. I assumed the case candy would not be the original that came with the guitar but now I think it does.

Re: JEM 777 DY Serial

It makes sense because Darren would have done them all over a relatively short period of time.
