jem 77DY - is this a good deal? your opinon.

hey guys

again, being new to the jem values ETC, i have found a Jem 77DY for $1500 aussie bucks, about $750 US methinks, in pretty good condition.
Non original front pickup and case, slightly faded.

what do you guys reckon about grabbin it and does anyone know how *rare* these are? I checked the jem spec sheet and there seems to be no info on number produced.

cheer and thanks
stu

In Jemland, the DY is about as rare as belly buttons. I think it was the longest produced Jem, and probably the most produced. Not totally sure on that though. But, bottom line, if it's in really good to excellent shape, $750 isn't a deal, but it's a good price. If you like it, it's worth grabbing.

For what it's worth, I got my DY in Players Condition, but with HSC (not original) for about $225 or $250USD.

Surely it's worth pointing out, however, to someone who's new to the Jem world and looking for some grounding, that $225 is an exceptionally low price for any real Jem...? I'd say $600-800 would be far more likely for a players 777DY, more outside the USA.

Also, I think the 77FP was produced longest, as it went from like 88 all the way until 2000.

Stu: I'd be happy to grab it at that price (I know what it means to find decent priced Jems outside the US! BOY do I know...) although the non-stock pickup would bug me appearance-wise. Just don't make any snap decisions; there's always another one around the corner (especially 777s). Let us know!

I didn't mean you'd ever find one for that price of 250, I just wanted to mention with all the great deal prices that are out there LOL

But, 750 is pretty average for a DY, they aren't hard to find at all, but if they are tough to find in Australia, and you love the guitar, buy it!

many thanks guys, its very strange but it looks like over the last three weeks i could have obtained three Jems here in sydney - being the 7pbk and 77GMC I just bought and now this 77DY.
The guy offered me a DNA as well, but its way out of my league
I appreciate the advice - Now just gotta work out the finances

again I am not so much concerned of the rarity as such, as I play my guitars to death!, but how it plays.

Well it should play pretty much like your other two if you get it set up right!

'Course, with those two fine pieces in your toolbox, maybe you want to vary things a bit by going for an all-access Jem (no pocket cracks, yay!) or one loaded with Breeds/Evos to broaden your tonal arsenal. Just a thought.

Either way, get us pics of your current family and any new additions! LOVE the 7PBK, wish I hadn't killed mine all those years ago (broke the trem post through the body into the cavity - rock n roll!)
