Jem 7VWH 2004 for $1200 CDN - should I buy?

Looking for some expert advice here. There is a 2004 Jem 7VWH guitar for sale in my local music store. It is priced at $1200 CDN. Serial # is F0401866. It does not have gold hardware - but I thought all Jem 7VWH models came with the gold hardware?!?

The bridge is different than the bridge on the new gold hardwared Jem 7VHW guitars. I think it's either a Lo Pro or an Edge Pro - but I'm not sure (I'm not an expert on floating trems - my RG 2550z Prestige has the Edge Zero bridge).

I have my RG but I've never owned a Jem (but would love to) so I'm looking for some advice becasue I'm not sure if this particular guitar is a good buy or not...I would be very grateful for some guidance from all you experts out there.

Many big thanks )

Re: Jem 7VWH 2004 for $1200 CDN - should I buy?

Intriguing - is it possible to catch a picture of this instrument? That will help evaluate it...

I once snagged a deal almost this good, except mine did still have the gold hardware, and the gold was in great shape as well... I was shocked when I saw it and it did indeed turn out to be a 7VWH and not a 555.

So, it's not out of the question as being the real deal, perhaps with some Vai/Evo-izing in terms of hardware colour.

Try to get a pic...

What condition is it in, otherwise?

It looks to be in good shape. It has the vine inlay across the whole fretboard so I don't think it is a 555 (doesn't the inlay stop at the 12th fret on the 555 models?) I will try and get back in there tomorrow so I can post a picture. That will also help with a positive ID onthe bridge cuz I'm not sure if it's an Edge Pro or a Lo-Pro.

Would a fake have the serial number F0401866? I read somewhere that the real Jem 7VWH guitars have serial numbers that start with F. It also had the Japan marking underneath the serial #.

Yes, good deal. The cheapest one I've seen around here is like 1400$ CND used.

If its real. Jemsite will let you know right away if it isn't.

It is way, waaaaay too expensive to pay for a guitar you are not 100% sure of authenticity wise, especially when the guitars is as copied and forged as the VWH.

Please, please don't spend a loonie on it until you get some pics (the more the merrier, try for a dozen!) to post here. Different color hardware raises a HUGE flag to me.

Re: Jem 7VWH 2004 for $1200 CDN - should I buy?

I would imagine if someone went to the trouble of changing the hardware ( and did it correctly ) they would want more for the guitar.... But the different hardware is a HUGE red flag, Im around Philly and a guy came in to my store wth a fake.... from the distance it looked real, but as soon as you looked at it up close you could see flaws (fret wire was different and horrible), pickups looked correct, but they sounded MUCH different. Most importantly the guitar played like ****. Also had a zakk wylde camo gibson les paul come in.... same thing. The guy with the les paul bought it off **** and got ripped.

Sorry for the long post but my point is there are some really great looking fakes out there but once you inspect closer and most importantly play them you can see and feel they are fakes.... be carefull.

Re: Jem 7VWH 2004 for $1200 CDN - should I buy?

Ok, here is a link to some photos (I couldnt upload the photos - said they were too large at 400kb?):

http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/z...nez%20Jem7vwh/

Also, this guitar is in a Long & McQuade music store, which is the largest music equipment retailer in Canada so I wouldn't think that they would be selling a fake...unless they couldn't tell? After playing the guitar I'm still not sure what kind of bridge it is because I have little experience with floating bridges - both of the Ibanez guitars that I've owned had the the Edge Zero and ZR bridges. Can someone please ID what kind of bridge this is?

Many big thanks for advice/help with this.

Re: Jem 7VWH 2004 for $1200 CDN - should I buy?

It is as if someone took all the original hardware and changed it.
On my Jem even the string tuner machines say made in Japan on the back of them not smooth tuners Ibanez. I have a 2000 Jem 7VHW.
I can only tell you that does not look like the original hardware for this Jem.

Any comments on the bridge? Is it an Edge Pro, III or Lo-Pro?
