Jem 7VWH 98-99 vs 2005-2006

I'm just curious on some thoughts between the older models and the new ones. I'm aware of the ebony neck issue so that is a difference between the two. Why would the '98 or '99 cost as much (or more) then a new one, is there any other difference the older ones to hold it's value so well (if they really sell for that much ~$2000). Is it best to get one older then a brand new one never played?

Thanks!

I'd get an older one with the lo-pro bridge

I'd get the older one too, i've got a '97 with the ebony and lo-pro. holds it tune a lot better than both the RG's i've had both had Edge Pro trems fitted.

Ebony is well worth having if it was a choice between an older one thats seen a bit of life and a brand new one for the same money i'd get the older one every time!!

Re: Jem 7VWH 98-99 vs 2005-2006

I dont know how it is in the states, but here there is a tendency to believe than anything and everything was better before. A 78 strat will sell for more than a brand new one, a beat up 1980 Les Paul will sell for the same than near mint 2001, and a decent 1989 RG550 will sell for the same than a excelent 2004 1570.

Even though in the particular case of the the 7VWH I would take a pre 2002 model (because of both the ebony fretboard and the locking studs).

I have the edge pro in my jem77BRMR and it works and looks fine. I didnt do the locking stud mod so the return to pitch isnt perfect, but then again, I dont exactly have perfect setup on my Lo Pro Edge guitars so the return to pitch isnt perfect on those either. But in both cases the missintonation is so subtle that I dont think someone could tell without having it plugged into a tuner.

There is the rumour that the first two production years were the best VWH's ... who knows.
I prefer the ebony/low pro

So the new necks are actually Prestige necks, with a vine and some scalloping! That makes good business sense for Ibanez, why tool up for two necks that are almost the same anyway. However its the 5 piece so should be stronger in the longrun. I think I'm warming to the concept of a stronger neck.

I couldn't decide which I liked more between the newer ones and older ones, I like edge pros but love ebony... so I went the hybrid route and bought a 2003 , should be here in a few days can't wait!!!!

Appreciate the input guys!!

Seems like there are some other things to consider. I new 2006 one may not be a bad thing though except for the trem? I've heard the rosewood ones and they sound pretty darn good. Decisions Decisions .......

IMHO I've tried out the edge pro, the edge and lo pro, I love the lopro and edge though, I don't like the edge pro cos of it stiffness

Nor is mine, its way easy to get a flutter from the trem. Unlike the trem on my PRS custom, now that is stiff - rock solid - however it does help with sustain and tone.

I tried to look around here, but didn't notice it. Was the lo-pro bridge used on jems 2002 and earlier years? Edge pro 2003 and later years? Thanks!!

Re: Jem 7VWH 98-99 vs 2005-2006

The Ebony board on the older one makes it the one for me, but I do like the new neck profile. The neck on my 77 BRMR is a lot thinner than the neck on my pre-2004 7VWH. Also, I really like the new bridge.

Re: Jem 7VWH 98-99 vs 2005-2006

I just love the new edge pro trems. I think they are just as great as the lo-pro's. Frankly i like the looks of ebony better than rosewood, even though Vai prefers the rosewood sound for a few years now. I don't hear that much of a difference though. A good pal of mine also has 2005 VWH and both sound different, even though the building specs should be the same...
