JEM 7vwh Floyd Rose Problems

Hi,

I'm new to this site.
Excellent place, helpful people.

I have a 08 JEM 7VWH that, unlike my 89 77FP, I literally can not touch the tremolo or the guitar is way out of tune.

Is there anything I can do to help it stay in tune?
I don't mind getting another tremolo if you tell me what I need to get. Would just like to maintain the gold color but it's not crucial.
I also read about the ESP Arming Adjuster but I don't have one of those yet.

Any suggestions would be great as I do want to play the guitar more.

Thanks

Re: JEM 7vwh Floyd Rose Problems

I appreciate the links but i do know very well how to set up the guitar.
The problem is the tremolo it won't return to a perfect zero point.
Will have to buy another or get the Arming Adjuster or both.

Thanks

Instead of giving up, since you aren't familiar with setting up a floating trem---do some research and be prepared to read and experiment. Once you get the hang of it--it's easy! How many springs are attached on the back? What string gauges are you using? If you're using .009s, make sure you have 3 springs. If you're using .010s or above--make sure you have 4 or all 5 springs on there. Also, pay attention to the trem angle. The baseplate needs to be parallel to the body, not the top of the trem (which is wedge shaped).
I'd love to see a few pics of your 7VWH, just to make sure of something...
You don't have 10 posts to show pics, so you can email them to me:

The big question is: Does your trem bar screw on, or does it pop in? I know it's a weird question, but once I get an answer I'll explain the reason.

Thanks for your reply.

I am using D'Addario 09-42 with three springs.
The trem angle looks fine to me, see pictures.
The trem bar pops in.

If you enter " flickr dotcom2me " in Google the first link should take you to three images I just shot of it.

If that doesn't work I'll send an email.

Thanks again for your reply

Could it be your Edge Pro (EP) doesn't have the locking studs, therefore making the stud holes slightly elliptical?

You may wanna invest in some if not already. I dunno how to treat the stud holes though if that is the cause.

Nope--doesn't work. NSR's suggestion may be the case, too.

AlaskaBat,

I just sent you some pictures.

NSR, as far as I know the tremolo has locking studs.
The guitar is a brand new 08 it's been in the case since I got it and looks like it did the day I got it. After I got it I played it for one day and then simply went back to my 89 77FP and haven't touched it since.

Thanks for your help.

sadly, the 08 Edge Pro's do NOT have the locking studs...... this is more than likely the reason for your tuning stability issues........

I would contact Rich at www.ibanezrules.com ASAP to get a set of locking studs and inserts....... he can also explain to you how to modify your current studs to lock.

Yep--what Ryc said! Plus, in your pics--it looks like your Edge Pro is not exactly level. It looks like the rear is up a little too much, but it's hard to tell as it's not a profile shot.
