Jem BRMR, does the finish still crack on these or is it a myth?

Hi,

Tempted between the white 7V and the BRMR, I'm a little worried about the finish on the BRMR though, has the problem with cracking been 'fixed' yet or is it one of these vastly over exaggerated problems?

don't know if it's been fixed (i seriously doubt, though) but i can tell that i once had a friend (italian endorsee) bringing me his spank new BRMR for a setup, it was flawless. i worked on it, set it up and took some pics also (see HERE), it was still flawless, then i put it into its case and stored in a dry and good climate room. the day after i opened the case and there was this 7-8cm long crack right along the forearm contour line. i couldn't explain it to my friend other than "well, it can happen..." and then hated Ibanez for a while.

It has not been fixed and the BRMR has been discontinued.

GO FOR THE BRMR! Just be a little fussy with it. It should be fine and a classic Rock guitar that will increase hugely in value IMO.

+1000 I'll take my Brmr over my Vwh any day. Better tone and plays better.

My finish has not cracked in the least

Crikey you guys!!! So much contradicting info, dont know which way to turn!!! Ideally my perfect Jem is the original FP but there is just so much choice now, got a feeling I'll be buying in the next 24 hours though as I cant hold back any longer... damn it! Been offered a mint Jem 7DBK but the review on here say its about the worst Jem ever made!

Really? DBK's arent bad Jems. They are very affordable good Jems I've never heard any of the owners complain.

*voice inside your heard*

GET THE BRMR!!! You won't be sorry

I've got a VWH,VSBL,2 FP's, BFP and the Vrmr rules the roost

Another consideration is that the 2007 JEM is apparently going to be the same as the BRMR (bound Basswood body, Breeds, etc.), except black instead of mirror-topped, and with a vine inlay, like the 7VWH, instead of dots, like the BRMR had.

7DBK has the wizard neck so it will feel different.Breeds so it will sound different. But largely the bigger complaint seems to be those damn screw-head dots on the neck!!
So it's main gripe is looks although the price MORE than offsets that.It just depends on the sound and feel you are after.

Bearing in mind if you are a "sweater" then the gold will wear on the vwh too.

Good point. though I'm thinking it wont have the same tone as the MR without the mirror top. I just love the tone a sustain of the MR

But look at it this way....you won't have to get a vine inlayed

I'm 1000% with Jim, if you can get your hands on a BRMR, at least try it out. It's an amazing axe. I'm considering getting another one and have that one inlaid with a DP.

Ah, and no problems with my mirror top until now (*fingers crossed*)

JP

Exclamation Re: Jem BRMR, does the finish still crack on these or is it a myth?

Well,

My axes are stored in a super-controlled environment here (20ºC), and as you know it's being laid in as we speak. I read somewhere that somebody had it in the case, and when he opened the case again, there was a large gap in the bindings.

In any case, it's January 2006 produced and I got it shipped from the US to Spain in March. Until now it is/has been mint, so I reckon it won't be affected, but one has to be prepared for the unexpected under any circumstance.

Regards,

JP

Unhappy Re: Jem BRMR, does the finish still crack on these or is it a myth?

Ouch! Yeah....I heard that the binding was actually the reason for the discontinuance. Hhmmm.....mine is still fine and it's very tight too.

Sorry to hear that JP
