Jem FP Value question

Hey guys,

What would an 89 FP that's solid, but fairly beaten up be worth?

Lots of dings, some into the wood, missing, maybe broken, screw on the back of the nut, generally rough shape, but still ( supposedly ) plays decent.

I'm looking at one now and not sure what a fair price would be.

Thanks to those in the know!

Re: Jem FP Value question

I just paid $800 for one in similar condition. Your mileage may vary, but I wouldn't pay over a grand for one in player condition.

You guys are in the stone age, this is what $800 buys in a Floral today.

Finish cracks and an old school neck crack? Sign me up. That's a player for sure!

Re: Jem FP Value question

The body is split back to the trem cavity, the head is on the verge of leaving the neck.

Re: Jem FP Value question

It is? Looks like finish cracks to me. But, you're the expert.

Still, the neck would be a easy fix.

Re: Jem FP Value question

Well you're the expert Rich,

You think that was a good buy at that price? How much would you buy it for, put into it, and resell it for? ( Assuming you do that, or would do that )

I don't see the value in that considering it could fall apart at any minute, but that's why I asked the questions

I guess the better question is.. how much is that fabric worth?

Re: Jem FP Value question

Personally, I'd like to see it, just to see if the cracks are superficial or not. A neck repair I could handle, the body'd be a little more difficult due to the fabric.

Here's hoping the buyer has the knowledge to fix it up. And swirl it.

When they come from the neck joint it's not body checking. It wraps around the back from both sides of the neck.

The market for FP's is high, and about to get even higher.

Re: Jem FP Value question

Meanwhile, I've been watching my main GAS, the 777DY, trade for an average of $1500 in pretty darn good shape.

Of course, they made them for nearly ten years....so there's a few more of those out there.

Obviously, because of the new floral pattern.

Here's my question, do you, and I realize there is no way to predict this for sure, think the market will stay high, or is this a case of sell, sell, sell very quickly. I love my 89fp too much to sell it, but one of my children will probably sell it 10 seconds after I croak. It's definitely a player, but a very solid and well taken care of player! And still all original too...So it would be nice to think that they can cash in big in 15 years or so...

Re: Jem FP Value question

Correct

The big cash will always follow condition, with poor condition models being dragged up a little by association, but they call high grades "investment quality" for a reason
