Jem Fp vine pink or brown

on my '91 Jem FP i have white lettering on the headstock and a brown stalk going down the vine, most florals i have seen have pink headstock lettering and a pink stalk going down the vine, what's everyone else got?

Re: Jem Fp vine pink or brown

The lettering might have just been worn from pink to a whiteish and for the stalk I think it is suppose to be white but maybe somehow it faded too

lets see some more pics of the guitar

There is one in the http://www.ibanezregister.com/Galler...al-jem77fp.htm gallery that has white instead of pink.

as far as I can tell it seems as if the pink just wore off on the headstock and it looks as if the stalk is brown, even though I swear reading somewhere it was pink

Re: Jem Fp vine pink or brown

I recently bought a replacement Neck from an Authorized Ibanez dealer and mine is the same as yours, The brown Jem sign is actually Gold and yours has just worn or dulled by the sunlight, and the pink vine is the same as yours its just a dull color, its not fluro pink.

If you use Bore doctor on your fretboard, you will see the colors of the stem come out, its just dirty..

With bore doctor

You know, that's what I was thinking. The headstock lettering definitely looks like badly faded pink. And the stem could just be dirty pink (or stained by some sort of fretboard "conditioner" meant to darken the board).

Re: Jem Fp vine pink or brown

it just simply faded, probably had a lot of sunlight on it.

Re: Jem Fp vine pink or brown

you can tell it faded too because all the color was drained out of the fabric too, just like what happens to curtains that have been up for 20 years.

Re: Jem Fp vine pink or brown

Bit off topic but it looks as if the green vine is on the back of a clear pice of acrylic and the acrylic pieces are set into holes that aren't exactly the same shape, so the gaps are filled up with black epoxy. Is that an accurate assessment?

They should be solid green pieces of plastic with black epoxy.

Re: Jem Fp vine pink or brown

Reason I asked is that in some of the pictures (look at the first picture), it appaears that there is a shadow cast against the green. Only way that could happen is if the green were lower than the surface of the fretboard.

In general the whole "black outline" is a nice touch that people who make custom vine inlay necks should pay attention to. I've seen some of those and they never look quite right. That is probably the reason why. You could do it by using a slightly larger bit on your CNC while routing out the inlay pockets. The machine would end up routing slightly larger holes than you wuld expect. Then you could "float" you correctly-sized inlay pieces in the black epoxy.

Re: Jem Fp vine pink or brown

The green colour IS below the surface of the fretboard by about 1mm and it has a clear coating over the top of it.

No they are clear pieces with green paper or something underneath. I never noticed it till someone here mentioned it. Upon closer look they are in fact clear pieces with something green underneath, not solid green pieces. Or maybe they used both methods for all I know. Rich would probably know better than anyone.

Back on topic, my vine on my FP is maple, not pink or anything else. Maybe it gives the illusion of a pinkish hue, but when you look at it up close it's just maple like on my J-Custom. My FP is a 2000 model. These pictures are before I removed the scratches.
