Cool The JEM that Ibanez SHOULD have made! ... the JEM7DBK/HAM90

This is my 5th (or 6th?) JEM7DBK to date, and I've finally bit the bullet and equipped the body with the proper neck.
(You listening Ibanez?! )

I bought a HAM90 neck from Rich Harris, then sprayed the headstock black to match the 7DBK. The result? Yummy! I love the ebony fretboard vs. the rosewood of the stocker. And the look of having ZERO fretmarkers is WAY cool. I might get something done custom someday. Finally, the textured headstock with the muted 'Ibanez' logo is simply perfect, IMHO.

I still have the stock 7DBK neck if anyone's interested.

Nice!

If I ever will buy another real Jem, it'll be a DBK or a 777VBK. I want a DBK but it has those screw inlays....

I love blank boards but in this context I prefer the screws. I just think they look so cool on the DBK. I'm not sure what "they" mean when they say they give the DBK an 'industrial' look, though.

What kind of Seymour Duncan do you have in the neck position?

The problem with the screws is that they turn into just plain ol' dots about 10 feet away. *YAWN!*

Re: The JEM that Ibanez SHOULD have made! ... the JEM7DBK/HAM90

I really like what you have done to it! The 90th textured headstock would have been a great original feature on the DBK, and the no inlay ebony board makes the guitar look truly evil. Are they Duncan Invaders front and back?

Patrick Deno on the forum here (a couple of years back) had a Vine inlay done on his DBK and it also looked pretty amazing. The screw head dots while pretty cool are not as interesting as the rest of the guitar.

To anyone who doesnt have one, DBK's are great and a very different beast to V series and older Jems and its well worth checking them out!

as a side note has any DBK owner left the original black tone and volume dials on the guitar?

It might be a good idea to keep the original neck for when you resell the guitar. I think it will be easier to sell as a stock guitar. You then won't have problem selling the HAM neck, imo.

The HAM headstock was already textured, just not black:

Note that the texturing on the DBK body is very different from the HAM, the DBK is much smoother. Also the HAM has an embossed Ibanez logo, unlike the DBK which has a silver decal on flat black.

@Oracle13 it has become an interesting hybrid, but I'm not too keen on the chrome dome pots.

I bought the guitar with the chrome dome knobs already there, but I don't think I'm going to keep them. I prefer the feel of the original knobs. I think I might do some hunting around for something like the stock knobs, in black, but a little more interesting.
