JEM Neck on JS guitar?

I'm thinking about putting together a hybred guitar for recording in my
little home studio. I'd like to put a JEM neck on a JS body.

Has anyone done this? Is it a direct fit? Or would I have to do some
routing/drilling custome fitting?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Well, a JEM neck is 24 frets vs the JS, which is 22, making the JEM neck longer. The neck pick-up would then be in the way for starters. You would have to remove it or reroute the pick-up cavity.

I'm always amazed at what ideas people come up with, but I don't think this one is worth trying. Once you got it done, I don't think you'd be happy with the result.

I'm fairly sure that your intonation would be WAY off as well. 24-fret necks don't play well with bodies that were made for 22-fret necks.

both are 25.5 scale... so it is possible given patience and skill.

The only problem is what Eddie said. This is very similar to using an AANJ on a non-AANJ jem/rg, except worse, because the neck pickup will have to be moved. You also have to account for body depth at the heel joint, and profiling the neck if needed to leave enough wood in the pocket to attach the neck.

Not worth the effort IMHO... glen

I think that it actually works perfectly. As Eddie and Glen both said, you need to either a) remove the neck pickup b) rerout the hole for it or even c) remove some of the overhang from the JEM's fretboard.

I've seen JEM necks on Strats (very similar to a JS) that fitted perfectly once the front pickup was removed. And even one on an old S540

The JS is of course routed for the old block neck joint so you'll have to use an old JEM neck unless you want to do a LOT of woodwork.

I know the scale is the same on the two guitars, so the intonation won't
be to terribly bad. I just ordered a new strobe tuner. I'm hoping it's
going to show up before this weekend.

So I guess from the responses, that this hasn't been done yet.

Hmmm.

I'll have to see whats what when I get my next JS guitar. I'm going to be
taking it apart for a new paintjob anyhow...

you might acually be better off just paying/doing a vine inlay on your JS neck and removing the dots.

I'm surprised nobodies referenced the thread on the Chromeboy with the VBK neck. I'm on a dial up, somebody else go find it

Ok, so I'd still have a JS neck. What if the whole purpose of this is to *have*
a JEM neck on a JS body guitar? Duh!

I've always loved Joe's tone, and the sexy curvy shape of the body,
and I'm a dual humbucker man, I don't even use the single coil on my
JEM or any of the strats I've owned. Honestly, I've usually had strats with
dual humbuckers in them too...

But I really like the JEM neck over the JS neck. It's just personal taste.
I'll see if I can find that post about the Chromeboy with the other neck
on it. Thanx for the tip!

Can you maybe give me some more keywords to search? I can't seem
to find the thread your looking for.

I'm serious about doing this, as long as I don't have to trash a guitar to
make it work.

Hell, if I have to, I'll call that weido in Las Vegas and have him make me
a JS body routed for JEM neck. At least that way I can have it made out
of Mohogany rather then Basswood.

Yup thats the thread. There was one other thread though before that one that had the pic on it before he ripped the pickgard off and left all the glue residue on the JS10. That poor guitar should be put out of its misery .....

Well that was a very educational thread. Basically everyone complained
about butchering a Chromeboy.

So how does that help me?
