Jem pickups and harmonic feedback
I have two stock Ibanez Jem's (7VWH and a DBK) and its really difficult to get either to feed back though various amps. The amps are always cranked to stage volume with lots of gain and I make sure my noisegate is off.
Its not impossible to induce feedback with them, but its very sensitive to the exact spot I'm standing in (precise to a few inches.. I shuffle around like Ozzy trying to find it!!) and even then its hit and miss. I know that good feedback is achieved by a number of things including volume, gain & optimum position in relation to the amp but if I breath it dies out !!
However, I have a Fender Strat with a Dimarzio Fred humbucker in the bridge position and it squeals like a scolded pig at every opportunity and has infinite harmonic feedback, almost regardless of where I stand in a fairly large hall with the same amp settings.
The other guitar player in the band uses stock JS1000 guitars and he can also get his to squeal at will in the same locations that my rig doesn't - and we were both using the same amps!
Are the Jem's Evo/Breed pickup's designed to be more efficient at preventing feedbackup or is the Satch designed Fred humbuckers less efficient?
