Jem Serial # Question - The FAQ is not clear on this...Pleas

My Jem 77FP has a serial number of 060186 on the neck plate. *What year was it made? I looked at the FAQ but it states that a '96 would start with 96xxxx. What year does 06xxxx belong to? Thanks.

Jem Serial # Question

The FPs get a little confusing because they have the old heel joint when the AANJs (and serial #s on headstock) long ago replaced it. Does your FP have a serial # on the back of the headstock? If not i'd assume this is a 1996 model (highly probable) unless there is reason to believe it's a 1990 model (less likely) ...glen

Jem Serial # Question

That is an odd plate #. If no serial # on the headstock logic says it's a 90, but a 60k 90' plate, odd.

Jem Serial # Question

Step 1- Check how the p/u's are attached:
•Early FP's were pickguard-mounted.
•Later FP's were body-mounted.

That should get you into the right decade, then.....

Step 2- Check number location:
•If there's a number on the back of the headstock, THAT is your serial number (use it for dating, warranty registration, etc.). *
•If there is only a heel joint plate, THAT is your serial number (use it for dating, warranty registration, etc.).

Jem Serial # Question

Thanks to all for your kind help. The PU's are body mounted and the #060186 is on the Jem neck plate so I guess it is a '96?

It is my first Jem and is a great player but I am not totally satisfied with the sound since the previous owner put a double whammy in the bridge position. I couldn't find much info on this PU - any comments on its compatibility with a JEM 77FP? *

Jem Serial # Question

I need to add this:

According to Ibanez, if you have TWO numbers on your guitar (one on the neck plate *AND* one on the back of the headstock), then you should use the number on the headstock for dating, warranty registration, etc.

The Double Whammy is a decent hi-gain pickup. *I'd replace it with either the stock PAF-Pro, or another JEM-type pickup (Evolution, Breed). *
But that's just me.

Jem Serial # Question

I was under the impression that the plates after 1990 starts with 060, 160 or 260. This means that the 6 doesn't have anything to do with the year at all so '96 might be a wild guess.

Then again I might be very wrong...
