JEM setup problem

I just got my first Jem (woo!) and during the process of setting it up, I hit a snag: if I get the trem angle right and the action where I want it, the whammy bar hits my volume knob!

Any advice? I thought about bending the bar a bit, but that seems like it could be asking to break the bar.

Re: JEM setup problem

Put a shim in the neck pocket. That will raise the neck and you will have to raise the action. This means the bridge will also be raised and your whammy bar will not hit the volume knob. (Raising pickups will probably be required)

You might be able to bypass shimming it if there is a way to adjust the height of the bar. I don't remember if there is though.

Re: JEM setup problem

i had the same thing on my jem and my rg , i took a pair of mole grips a duster wrapped round the bar and used some pressure, it didnt break, , i leave that one up to you, i have done it before and not snapped any but i may just be lucky, the other way is change the knobs for strat type , hey i know thats not realy everyones cup of tea though.

Re: JEM setup problem

My solution was to wrap a rag around the bar, grab it with some pliers, and give it a lil pressure. Clears the volume knob fine now

Re: JEM setup problem

Don't worry about breaking the bar; I just rebent a left handed arm to make a spare right handed one (please don't ask!! LOL).
