JEM Tremolo Choking

How far can you pull up on your tremolo bar on a JEM?

My setup is .3mm relief, string height is 2mm @ 14th fret on the Low E and 1.5mm on the High E.

I can pull up from an open Low E note to a B (7 semitones) before it begins hitting the frets.

Is this normal?!? Does the trem or the strings normally bottom out first?

For reference I come from a background of Telecasters and Les Pauls.

Re: JEM Tremolo Choking

JEM's from different generations all setup different but that sounds about right for a current generation with Edge bridge. If the action is high enough the strings will choke on the saddle lockdown screws before the frets.

Re: JEM Tremolo Choking

Thanks Rich!! This is a brand new 2017 JEM7VWH with the Edge bridge. I thought it would choke at some point but wasn't sure.

Re: JEM Tremolo Choking

The lower the action, and I usually run 1.4 B - 1.2 T, you won't get that much range, the higher the action the more range you get.

You said it hits the frets so it is choking
