Jem w/ Edge intonation issues

Random data point that may be completely irrelevant. First, was a root cause ever determined on this issue? I feel like it went away for a while and then came back.

Anyway I was looking at an RG1570 body and trying to figure out what would need to be done to it to accept an Edge. This is an older 56mm heel body which would have had an Edge Pro. Upon test fitting the Edge with the studs raised way up, I found that the front ears of the trem by the knife edges interfere with the body.

My first thought was that it was due to the corners of the route there have a much larger radius for the Edge Pro. Squaring up the corners more would at least solve that clearance issue. But then I noticed something I've never noticed before. The stud inserts on an Edge Pro are 1mm closer to the leading edge of the route than they are on an Edge or LoPro guitar. My first thought was that you'd simply account for that difference in the intonation adjustment but then it got me thinking about the Jem intonation issues. That guitar reverted from an Edge Pro to an Edge. Was the location of the studs overlooked in that process?

Re: Jem w/ Edge intonation issues

You're forgetting the treble side is not affected. It would affect all the same if that was the problem.

I should note that these will intonate if you do the 12th harmonic method. The only problem with that is all the frets are out of tune so not a solution, but does explain why others have said "but we found they intonated fine".

Re: Jem w/ Edge intonation issues

From what serial numbers, or year, has the Jem7V intonation problem been solved?

Re: Jem w/ Edge intonation issues

After all the discussion it turns out there is was no JEM7VWH intonation problem. Apparently people who said they had intonation problems had the pickups too high causing the issue.

Ah OK - that's a relief, I was just reading Rich's website page on the Jem7V-WH's, I guess it needs an update.

Re: Jem w/ Edge intonation issues

Apparently "the people", including the guitar specialists at HUSA, were completely unaware something with the pickups was different. 2 guitars setup exactly the same would give completely different results. The pickups were no higher, but they had to be way lower to get correct intonation.

Re: Jem w/ Edge intonation issues

Lesson learned... high output ceramic magnet pickups pull on metal guitar strings with various result.

Re: Jem w/ Edge intonation issues

Lesson learned, that after 17 years of production something changed that had been stable for, 17 years....
