Jem777 heel plate dates... what is the real deal?

so what is the final word on the dates on the heel plates of the early Jem777? I have a plate that starts with 87, and of all the plates I see in pictures for sale... they are 87, 88, 89..... are they all 1988? or did Ibanez use two digits for the early runs?

there is a posting "authority" here that says 87 88 89 are all 1988, but I wonder ... anyone have anything different to say?

Often times a guitars sold in a certain year will have the previous year's serial number, indicating that they were made before the calendar year started.

A good example of this is a GMC, which was only sold in 1992-93. Many of them will have 91 serial numbers.

So where does this:

"The Old heel plates, while obtrusive compared to the All-Access-Neck, were too cool. The original JEMs had JEM in script with the 6 digit serial number. The serial number is useless and untraceable, except for the first two digits. The first two digits represent the year. On UVs 00 represents 1990 oddly. Not all years are correct, as many PMCs have 91xxxx serial numbers, etc."

say this:
