JEM7BSB vs JEM7DBK - For the same price, what would you choo

Hi all,

I would like to know what you would do in this case : here where I live (in France), there's a shop that sells both a JEM7BSB and a JEM7DBK for the same price. Both are new.

I don't plan to buy right now, but in a few months (gotta save money first - these are really expensive, here).
Basically I'd like to know what you think is different between the two. I'm not talking about the look : this I can figure out for myself, and I think the BSB looks better, but the DBK is not bad either.

I can see from the Ibanez catalog that the differences are :
- basswood (7DBK) vs american basswood (7BSB)
- super wizard neck vs jem neck
- breed pickups vs evolution pickups

Could you tell me what you think ? Which one would you choose, and why ? (Again, please don't answer about the finish - just the tone and playability/neck...)

Oh, and BTW, what is this 'Lion Claw' you talk about ? Is it the carving under the Lo-Pro Edge that enables you to pull the whammy bar ?

Thanks for your help, guys !

Personally I'd get the DBK even though it is HELLA ugly just because it has breeds instead of Evos.

personally, i'd get the BSB - prefer Evos, and the jem neck to breeds or the super wiz neck.. it just doesn't.. feel right.. to me, at any rate, and that's the most important.

The choice is really a matter of what feels right to you. The fact that the pup's and necks are different on the two make it a choice for feeling and tone. Try them both and determine if you like the fatter neck yet hotter sound of the evos on the BSB or if you like the slim neck and warm tone of the breeds on the DBK. Good Luck.

I've never played either, but yes, the Lion's Claw is the carving under the Lo-Pro. *My oppinion on which you should buy? *I say, try em out, see which one feels/sounds better to you. *I'd hafta say feel is more important because the pickups can be switched without too much trouble.

I'd say BSB for 3 reasons
1. *Evo pickups
2. *Jem neck
3. *It's not butt ugly :argue:

I'm not a fan of the Breeds, and I'm not a fan of the wizard neck. *And to me, the DBK finish looks like ceiling stipple painted black. *I just don't like it. *
But then, you need to pick the one that you like the best. *And remember, if you prefer the breeds and wizard neck, the finish can always be changed.

BSB is a much nicer guitar overall. JEM neck, EVO's. It blows the DBK away
