JEM7VWH finds new home and I am in love!

I finally picked up the JEM7VMWH that I had on order from GC. Upon my arrival to the store after a two week wait, I was so pleased to see an 03' model with the ebony board, not that it plays better than the rosewood, just like the look better. They pulled the case out of the box after setting her up and I took her home, only to find her flat tuned and I started to sweat cuz' I didn't master tuning the demo they let me borrow at all. Well, I discovered the Ibanez rules site and figured out that since they were all flat, a few turns of the spring screws to even out the trem would do the trick. Lo and behold, it worked! And...she plays fast, the action is perfect, the D'Addario 10's I had GC put on felt full and tight and OMG, the sound coming out of the pickups was better than my PRS Custom 24...I love playing it more than any electric ever. This is one great guitar. One question, since the neck appears unfinished should I put some wax on the neck to keep her from drying out like Ovation site recoomends for my elec/acoustic with it's unfinsihed neck? In the meantime, I am so pumped up, that I cannot stand it.

Yes they have a clearcoat. If you sand the neck (i did it) you'll feel it.

that's funny...I always thought of the clearcoat as a good thing because it made the neck more slick and easier for faster playing because of the reduced friction.

I guess it's a personal preference

okay...so best to leave the neck alone, she feels smooth and fine, I just thought it was unfinished but I will just wipe it down after use and go from there, no wax, no oil needed I guess...sorry to be such a newbie...Jeff R. G.

Some people take the finish off the neck but its probably best just to leave it on there.
