There isn't a quality difference between them. Its mostly aesthetics.

I owned a Jem7VWH. I wanted a seven string so i traded it for UV777BK. They are pretty much the same (feeling wise and i think similar sounding) guitar with a string added. Of course, I like the way the universe looks better.

If you are going to use the seven string [wisely] then I would definitely get the Universe, no question.

For more info, look at the post in this forum, its rather recent so its either at the bottom of this page or the top of the next page of posts, I think its called "Which is better: Jem7VWH or UV777BK?

p.s. that guy ended up getting a UV777BK

as far as quality they are very similar, but i have to disagree on the tone being similar -- they are worlds apart in the tone department. *i have both and use each for different purposes. *the 7v is a very smooth, sweet sounding guitar that is great for pretty melodies and is very expressive. *the UV is great for shredding, clean parts, and heavy chunky stuff. *7v=mushy soft & sweet. *UV=tight well-defined & unforgiving.
just my perception.

I find the characteristics the opposite....the UV kinda feels mushy and thick, but the VWH seems very refined, sharp, and DEFINITELY unforgiving....I of course prefer the VWH....even though I own a UV777BK and no 7VWH yet....

Personally, I prefer the 7VWH. But you need to play both and let your hands and ears decide. Also consider the type of music that you play. --rvj

The Bigger question is whether you want the low B or not. *Answer that one, and you're done. *Both are excellent guitars.
