Re: Joe's custom urushi JS

Is it called an 'urushi' finish or what ?
What exactly does urushi mean ?

Ibanez did a small run of a J-Custom S series (think it's called the JCS540 or something) guitar with a similar type of finish but with a finer pattern with brighter colours.
Here's a couple of pics of it;

Nice Axe!

I went watching Joe on the Super Colossal tour and I bought one of the signed posters of Joe in front of a wall hung with all the guitars he used on the album

That ones on it..........

Re: Joe's custom urushi JS

Take a picture of the poster Max, I'd like to see it. There was a similar guitar on the Live dvd that looked like it had a pea**** finish on it, could this be a new JS for next year?

Re: Joe's custom urushi JS

the J-custom looks like a photo finish , whereas the JS looks like they painted it a bunch of different colors, than randomly hit it with a power sander.

I've never seen this guitar until now. I did see him playing one with snakes on it when I saw him with Eric Johnson last year.

Re: Joe's custom urushi JS

That J-Custom... wasn't that the one that the paints/oils used were extremely toxic when applying it?
I seem to remember some sort of discussion about it...

Re: Joe's custom urushi JS

It made the luthiers itchy. It is actually a technique used to make some traditional Japanese bowls. Very cool looking!
