JS100 vs JS1000

Hi Guys

I just bought a JS1000 off a popular auction site and I am thinking that it may not be genuine.

It is clearly a JS series but I am unsure if it could be the JS100 but I do not know how I can identify this.

It does have 2 x DiMarzio pickups in it but these could have been changed - how can I indentify the actual pickup model?

Also if I look on the rear of the bridge there is a set of what looks like red plastic pieces - one is missing, I cannot see what these do and the tuners on the bridge turn but have no actual effect on the tuning.

How can I identify the bridge type?

I will try and attache some photos

Re: JS100 vs JS1000

The first big clue is the neck joint, JS100 has a plate, JS1000 had an AANJ.
The pickups are FRED/PAF Pro in JS000, you could pull them to check the numbers on the bottom.
The original Edge comes on the JS100 and the TRS or Edge III comes on the JS100 depending on the age of the guitar. Just look at some pics of the bridges on Ebay to figure out what bridge you have.

Re: JS100 vs JS1000

The bridge is an Edge Pro, the pickup looks like a FRED to me.
The red balls are the balls on the end of the strings.

Re: JS100 vs JS1000

Hi

Thanks for helping.

The red parts are not the balls - they are screwed in place

There is plate on the neck

And if it is an Edge pro would that tally with 100 or 1000?

Thanks again

Re: JS100 vs JS1000

This is strange???
Unless older JS1000 had a plate???
Looking in to it a bit, it looks like the Edge Pro did come on some JS1000 JS1200???

I don't know???

No JS has an AANJ, they are all plates on the back. The trem you show in the pics looks like an Edge Pro to me. The red part there, as far as I know, is just to stop you from feeding the string ridiculously far into the trem/body cavity of the guitar.
This looks like a JS1000 to me.

Re: JS100 vs JS1000

Does it therefore matter that I am one red part missing? and any clue where I would find a replacement?

Re: JS100 vs JS1000

There's one period where the JS1000 came with the Edge pro bridge. JS100 always had the Edge III.

Re: JS100 vs JS1000

Ok cool I am happy that it is a JS1000 woohoo! I It looks like the red parts just hold the ball of the string so that one missing part the string will have to be clamped in the usual way until I can find a replacement

Re: JS100 vs JS1000

The red part is not really necessary. It just prevents you from feeding the string too far into the trem/cavity. For me, it does even less as I string the ball end through the tuning pegs on the headstock and then cut the excess off before clamping down at the bridge. It's not necessary, nor is it something you'll ever see when you're not making trem adjustments. I wouldn't even worry about it.

Not entirely accurate. The JS100 started out with the Lo-TRSII(IIRC) then for a short period of time came with the Edge Pro 2, then ended up with the current Edge III trem. Would be nice if Ibanez decided to throw the EZ2 bridge on the JS100, would do wonders for the entry level JS.
