I would go for a new amp, maybe a used Marshall or Line 6. The JS100 may not be as high quality as a JS1000, but it's a decent guitar compared to many out there in the hands of 16 year olds - consider yourself proud to be playing an Ibanez when all your mates are probably bashing around on Squires or OLPs. Get a nice amp and crank it.

You can always upgrade your pickups later, but new pickups won't help you drown out the roar of the crowd with a little 30 watt amp

There are some good amp suggestions in the Gear & Equipment forum, or you may want to find a Marshall Valvesate or Line 6 Spider I, each of which could be found rather cheaply on the used market and should stand up to whatever you have to dish out to them. Also have a look at tube amps by Crate or Peavey, or Yamaha's DG series of digital amps.

A used Peavy Baditt transtube or a used Fender M80 should be in your budget. A used Line 6 Spider 1 is another option.

Dont upgrade the JS100, sell it and buy an RG570 or better yet an RG770DX..... or save a littel more and buy a RG3120.

Get a new amp man. And make it the best amp you can get for your money. If you can't get a decent amp with what you have now then dont throw away your money on a LESS-MEDIOCRE amp than the one you have now. Save until you can get a nice 50-100 watt quallity combo or better.

If you like the JS, keep your eyes open for an old Radius (or 540R or R540) model. They go all the time on eBay for under $400, and are most of the way to a JS1000 (I actually prefer them to a JS1000).

Amps... Get a V-Amp2 modeler. For $130 you'll have a good recording tool, a headphone amp with aux input so you can practice in style in headphones until 2am, and get familiar with the rough idea of what people are talking about when they mention certain amp sounds or effects. If you play a gig, you can go thru the PA and sound OK (and have all kinds of footswitching ability).

As for better real amps, it depends on what you want. Peavey classic 30 is a nice small tube combo, and the Pignose 40 is a great buy for half the price. For solid state I dig Carvin's stuff (my SX50 screams for a $300 amp), but there are lots of others.

I wouldn upgrade it. Not worth it if it has the Lo TRS. Just save your bucks, sell the JS100. With what you get from selling your JS100 + U$S300 you can get really good guitar, may be a 3120 in good condition. The difference between them is HUGE.

the only really good reason i could think of for doing a total overhaul on a JS100 is if it's the red one and you REALLY like the body color. The cost of a refret, new pickups, new wiring, new trem, and routing for the trem puts you up at least up to what a JS1000 goes for.

All the same, the trans red 100 does look pretty cool.

I agree with glen, if it has the edge Pro 2, ill stick to it. You could chande the bridge pup, although I wouldnt spend much on it nontheless. May be you can get a used Di Marzio for under U$S35-40 for the bridge position and install it your self.

A new amp is the way to go.
