JS1000 with higher output pickups

I like the PAF Pro and the FRED. Unfortunately, every time i play my wolfgang, i just love the sound of the higher output pickups. I really like the higher output sound that Vai has with his JEMs.

So.....last night i tried swapping my Wolfgang and JS1000 pickups, unfortunately that pickup cavity for the JS was a shy too narrow (interesting that the pickup brackets are different sizes).

With that done, i was wondering if anybody has ever swapped out the stock pickups for something different? I'm curious what you guys have used, like, etc.

I'm not totally sure, and I KNOW others here know, but a good replacement would be the Tone Zone (bridge) and Air Norton (neck) to get the more ballsy sound. In fact, I read it here in another thread some time ago......if I'm wrong, somebody will say so

Hi there, I put Air Norton and Air Zone in my JS1 and the baby screams, I always found the Fred a little too thin sounding for my ear, the sound now is more open and twangy/Fenderish like.

I *JUST* put a pair of EVOs in my JS-6. I love the odd harmonics of
the FRED, but I got really tired of the lack of bass. You can't get FAT
palm muted tones, nor artificial harmonics on the bass notes.

IMHO, the FRED is a very musical guitar, built VERY much for a specific
musician. With the pair of EVOs in my JS-6, it really brings out the full
range of the guitar, very rich in harmonics all the way across the audio
spectrum, and very subtle nuances of your playing. I mean, I can now
hear and *feel* every little pick attack and scratch and squeal. While I
don't care for the rather generic sound of the EVOs, I really like what
they have done my JS-6 and how they are forcing me to be a better
player! LOL

IMHO, the EVOs sound like passive EMG pickups.
I think the Tone Zone, Air Norton or Pearly Gates pickups might be
a little more musical but still give you a good full range.
