I *JUST* put a pair of EVOs in my JS
-6. I love the odd harmonics of
the FRED, but I got really tired of the lack of bass. You can't get FAT
palm muted tones, nor artificial harmonics on the bass notes.
IMHO, the FRED is a very musical guitar, built VERY much for a specific
musician. With the pair of EVOs in my JS
-6, it really brings out the full
range of the guitar, very rich in harmonics all the way across the audio
spectrum, and very subtle nuances of your playing. I mean, I can now
hear and *feel* every little pick attack and scratch and squeal. While I
don't care for the rather generic sound of the EVOs, I really like what
they have done my JS
-6 and how they are forcing me to be a better
IMHO, the EVOs sound like passive EMG pickups.
I think the Tone Zone, Air Norton or Pearly Gates pickups might be
a little more musical but still give you a good full range.
