This may be a stupid question - I found a JS1200 for $1000 with one small ding below the bridge..Good deal??

You mean that crater? No self respecting Satch fan would be caught dead playing that. But you on the other hand might be willing to buy it for parts....

Will YOU care about the ding?

Are you sure thats the only damage to the guitar?

Do you have that much money?

Answer me these questions three, and the answer shall be clear to thee.

Re: JS1200 "ding" vs Price

I will not be able to fully answer the first two questions until the guitar arrives. Ultimately, to me it is how the guitar plays that is the most important but I am more hung up on how it looks because of the price range I'm in. I could have bought a JS1000 for $650 a couple of weeks ago - but it had a huge divot near the trem where I think someone was trying to block the trem. I know that eventually it will get dinged up...

JS1200's have been selling for an average of $1000 on EB and more on CL. I bought mine from a store which gave me the added flexibility that I could return it within 30 days and get my money back - if I don't like it, the ding is bigger than I thought, etc. I asked multiple times and had them send me a slew of pics and they claim that the ding is the only imperfection on it.

Do I have the money? That's a loaded question :-) Yes, I have it and depending on how the JS1200 works out, I may sell of my Epi LP and wife's MexiStrat.

LIKE YOU SAY, ITS MORE IMPORTANT HOW IT PLAYS, (BUT NO DOUBT IT WILL NEED SETTING UP TO YOUR LIKING) IF YOU BOND WITH IT KEEP IT, IF YOU DONT, TAKE IT BACK AND GET A REFUND.

ON THESE TOP END JS MODELS, DONT UNDER-ESTIMATE THE POWER OF A GREAT SETUP, IT MAKES A MASSIVE DIFFERENCE.

It's funny like somebody has a megafone "SQUEEK WAH WAWAWAW WAH WA WA SQUEEK." You really can almost hear it.

Re: JS1200 "ding" vs Price

So I received the guitar yesterday. Since I have typically bought new, I don't know if I am being too picky on a used guitar. There are 3 "issues" I found -
1. The volume and tone knobs fell out when I turned the guitar over. Looks like I need to replace the pots.
2. The fretboard was dinged up - probably hit by a headstock or something.
3. The original ding in the body - actually smaller than the original picture that they sent me.

Again, it's a 07 that I paid $950 for (vs. $1750 new)...Am I making a mountain out of a mole hill?

Thanks

Re: JS1200 "ding" vs Price

The dings in the fretboard and body are alright, almost all guitars will collect dings and scratches through their life, but the pots falling out is weird. It looks as though only the shaft has come out of the pot casing itself, I've never seen that before. You will most likely need new pots.

Well, new ones aren't $1750. I sent you a pricing email, if you didn't get it.

Otherwise the pots are shot. The plastic clip that holds the shafts in is broken. You're lucky the knobs weren't rolling around on topof the guitar when you opened the case.

Re: JS1200 "ding" vs Price

If your going to pay premium for a used guitar like that it should be sorted and ready to play when you get it. I can tell already you are not really happy. Unless you can replace pots yourself it might cost you more than buying new by the time you are done. I really hate to see somebody get a great guitar like that and then not be able to ejoy it because of issues. I dunno, it's your money but I would be on the phone with somebody, get them to pay for setup and repairs.
